内容紹介

小津安二郎の戦後第一作監督作品である。戦後間もない東京には、戦争で親を亡くした戦災孤児がたくさん居たが、その中の一人を拾ってきた男(笠智衆)は、その子を女(飯田蝶子)に預けてしまう。女はその子が疎ましくて仕方がないので、どこかに置き去りにしようとするが、なかなかうまくいかない。そのうち、その子供に情が湧いてきて、二人の間に、実の親子のような絆が生まれてくる。しかい…。段々と子供に対する気持ちが変化する経緯を小津の演出で、そして飯田蝶子の演技力で、魅せる作品。懐かしい昔の東京の風景と共に、心に残る作品である。

人情が暖かいと書いてる方がおりますが、わたしはむしろ人々のあっけらかんとした「つめたさ」にグッときました(笑)。
小津作品の中ではそんなに高く評価されていないみたいですが私は大好きで何度も観てます。
土手で子供を追っかけるシ−ンの間の取り方は最高。爆笑。

　戦災孤児を巡る長屋住まいの人々の人情劇。子役の小汚さと暗い顔のリアルさは、不自然なまでに小奇麗で大人に媚びた今の子役達では醸し出すのが不可能な味がある。人情劇とはいえ、最初の方では長屋の人々が子供を押し付けあったり、どこに子供を置いてくるか話し合ったりするシーンがあって、そんなリアルなドライさが前半で描かれているから、後半の人情劇が生きてくるのだと思う。

　また、「一人息子」では朴訥とした物静かな母を演じている飯田蝶子が、本作品ではせっかちで人情味溢れる「長屋のおばちゃん」を演じている。どちらの作品も味がある演技をしているが、キャラが全く違うのに自然に演じ分けられていることに感心した。この作品が気に入った方は「一人息子」の方もオススメします。

戦後まもない人々の人情があたたかいのにびっくりです。子供を社会が育てるという理想が垣間見えます。今の給食費の未払いする親や、他人の迷惑をまったく顧みない自分第一の人々が増えた現在は、物質的にはめぐまれているが、精神はずいぶんすさんできたことがよく分かります。
あと、笠智衆の　　のぞきからくり　　ほととぎすが見事です。
