本作は、タイトル通り、全編アコギ、バンジョー、マンドリンを中心に曲によってはフィドル、ドブロ、ハーモニカ、ペダル・スティール・ギター、ピアノを加えた歌なしのブルーグラス・サウンドによってボスの選り抜きの名曲の演奏を繰り広げる作品だが、奇をてらったアレンジに流れることなく小細工なしの真っ向勝負で、ボスの名曲の魅力を再認識させてくれるとんでもない傑作だ。ボスの曲はアメリカの大地にしっかり根をおろしたものだし、ボス自身「ライヴ・イン・ダブリン」で幾つかの自曲をアメリカン・ルーツ・ミュージック風にアレンジしていたので、ブルーグラスとの相性も悪くはないだろうと思っていたが、本作を聴いてびっくり。原曲に忠実な展開でありながら、ボスの曲に込められたスピリットもブルーグラスの持ち味もともに兼ね備えたこんな大傑作が生まれるとは嬉しい驚きだ。録音も良く、各楽器の音色の美しさとボスの曲のメロディーの素晴らしさをたっぷり満喫することができる。ずばりお薦めだ。

なお、収録曲の半分のプロデュース、エンジニアリングと演奏のリーダーをDavid West、残り半分をMark Thorntonが担当している。また、上の商品説明やＣＤジャケ表示の曲順と私の購入したＣＤの曲順は違う。1.Prove it All Night, 2.I'm on Fire, 3.Cover Me, 4.Born to run, 5.Hungry Heart, 6.Tunnel of Love, 7.Glory Days 8.Blinded by the Light 9.Born in the U.S.A. 10.Brilliant Disguise 11.Dancing in the Dark 12.Streets of Philadelphiaが正しい曲順のはずだ。
