3.0 out of 5 stars ついに行われた来日公演の方が良かった, 2008/11/27
2008年11月についに日本でも行われた “Welcome to My Living Room Tour” のアルバム。ただし、1回のライヴをまるまる収録したものではなく、2004年のいくつかのライヴからの音源が混ざっている。だが、実際のライヴと同様の２部構成で並べられた２枚組であり、アンコールの最後が “Locomotion” で締めくくられているのも同じで、通常のライヴ・アルバムとしてまったく違和感なく聴ける。（なお、ＤＶＤの方は2005年のライヴの模様であり、ＣＤとは収録曲が異なっている。）キャロルのピアノ弾き語りから最大でもギターを二人加えた三人編成の、コンセプトどおりこぢんまりとしたくつろいだ感じのアコースティック・ライヴで、その分彼女の楽曲の素晴らしさが感じられる。また、５曲目をかつて公私両面でのパートナーだったジェリー・ゴフィンとの間の娘ルイーズ・ゴフィンと歌っているのも聴きもの。

このＣＤの最初に収録されている “Welcome to My Living Room” という曲では、「私は62歳」と歌っているが、2008年のライヴでは「私は66歳」と歌詞を変えて歌っていた。この年にもなれば衰えが感じられたとしてもおかしくはないし、このＣＤでは、もともとハスキーな感じのある彼女の声がガラガラ度を増して少々耳障りに感じられるところすらある。だが、それから４年たった来日コンサートのほうがむしろ聴きやすく、味わい深い歌を堪能できた。その意味で、そのコンサートを経験した後にこのＣＤを聴くと少々複雑な気分にもなるが、曲目や構成などの点で実演を思い起こすよすがにはなると思う。ただ、そのような事情ゆえ、実際のコンサートを聴かなかった人がこのＣＤを聴くとその声に不満を抱くかもしれないし、日本盤タイトルには「ベスト・ヒッツ・ライヴ」などとあってベスト盤的な意味合いも持たせて売ろうとしているものの、彼女の曲をまだあまり聴いていない人がベスト盤をほしいと思っているのであれば、この盤を買うよりもまずは万全の声で歌われたオリジナルで編まれたベスト盤を聞いたほうがよいだろうとも思うので、あえて星３つとする。
