個人的には、これまでのアルバムでは『FIRE DOG』が一番のお気に入りです。
あなたは？『Because』？
『ジレンマ』の人もいるかな？
本作は、そんなお気に入りの一枚になること請け合いの一枚。
とにかく曲のツブが揃ってって、久しぶりにアルバムを通して聴けます。

曲調はさまざま。
ほのぼのとした3.のような曲もあれば、現代社会に物申す！って感じの7.もあります。
1.や8.12.のような勢いのあるロックチューンも。

全体を通じてシンプルな曲が目立つのが特徴的。
シンプルであるがゆえにか、曲の良さや斉藤和義の唄が
際立ってて、妙にグッとくるし、聴けば聴くほどに味わいが出ます。
5.や11.のようなAcoustic GuitarとHarmonicaだけの、フォークスタイルの曲も良いです。
5.は「男節」っていうよりも「せっちゃん節」が炸裂。
「一人で浴びるシャワーじゃ　この汚れは落とせない」と歌われる11.が
個人的にはベストトラック。

歌詞の内容はシリアスでヘヴィであったり、ストーリーテリングがしっかりしてる。
その一方で、音の抜けが良くスカッとして、メロディがなんとも人懐っこい。
そんな斉藤和義のシンガーソングライターとしての資質が
遺憾なく発揮された名盤としてオススメできます。
きっと末なが〜く聴けるのではないでしょうか。
ジャケットも大好き！

DVDはライブ映像ではなく、ヴィデオクリップです。
なお、ニューヨークで撮影された写真集が別冊で付く盛りだくさんな仕様です。

前作『紅盤』は特殊なケースだとして、それ以前の数枚に於ける何曲かの
ある意味「実験的」な、ともすれば「未消化」な曲がこの一枚に結実した感じがします。
象徴的なのは４、５、６曲目の「昭和的」なテイスト。まさに今までになかった
新しい斉藤和義の定形なのだと思います。
男の情けなさとか、郷愁とか憧憬とか・・・。極上の物語がここにあります。

ギターを弾きたくて弾いていたら曲ができて歌ができ、それらが集まって出来たという感じのアルバム。ギターの弾き方、音色、雰囲気が見事にバラエティーに富む。「愛に来て」「トレモロ」「かすみ草」など印象深い。「男節」「Swing」かっこいい。
