素朴で哀切な感じのとても良いアルバムです。
ドラマの主題歌を集めているので、よく知っている曲がほとんどなのに、
河口恭吾色に染まっていて、新鮮な感覚があります。
なかでも、宇多田ヒカルの『First Love』がすばらしい！
特に、ファルセットで歌う英語の歌詞の部分は、切なくて美しく、
音楽の快楽のようなものを感じさせられ（ちょっとおおげさですが）、
思わずうっとりしてしまいました。
その他では、ドリカムの『LOVE LOVE LOVE』、森高千里の『渡良瀬橋』、小泉今日子の『優しい雨』が良かったです。
女性歌手の詞と河口恭吾の歌声は相性がいいのかもしれませんね。

柔らかな耳触りの新鮮さは丁度ソット・ボッセ等、素朴声によるカバーの男声版といった風情に仕上がっています。女声曲や「SAYYES」等高出力な男声曲も河口氏のミニマムな世界に持ち込み、声の柔らかさを活かしてシンプルに作り直されています。編曲も懐かしさの感性に染まり易い優しさです。

女声曲では徳永氏と同様あえて声の力を抜き、音色の純度を最大限活かす歌い方です。一方歌に身を預け儚い効用が生れた彼と違うのは、河口氏がその音色の丸みで積極的に曲を引っ張ることで明るさが存在したこと。「渡良瀬橋」等木漏れ日のようにリラックスした音色で聴き心地がよいのです。この点が今作カバーの魅力でした。他方カバーで重要な楽曲掌握に関しても、氏が余裕を持った領域に持ち込んでいるので詞の歌われ方も自然です。

槇原敬之「LOVE LETTER」玉置浩二「メロディー」は原曲が既に温かい声なのでよく似合います。でも彼の息混じり声は槇原氏の透明度とは多少違いますね。一方後者は『ON/OFF』で同曲をカバーした高木奏子のように口ずさむ歌方なので、原曲より素朴味があります。しかし「ラブ・ストーリー〜」は楽曲の命であるサビ途中でブレス位置を作ってしまいサビが分断されたのは、原曲の流れるような軽やかさやスムーズなスピードを消してしまいました。

バランス感のよい「First Love」は一番の名演奏。裏声と実声の切り替え連続が綺麗にきまり原曲の雰囲気を再現します。又それがミドルボイスになる「LALALA〜」も声の綺麗さが原曲の甘美さに繋がります。こうしたファンクが案外上手いと決定付けるのはFLYING KIDS「幸せであるように」の掌握度の高さ。リズムに気持ちが最も乗った一曲です。「歌うたいのバラッド」は素朴味が詞のシンプルさを表すので、今作趣旨にぴったり。斎藤氏の飄々とした表情と比べ、やはり温かみを添えた音色です。

河口さんは少し気だるい歌い方が特長だと思っていましたので、この選曲はどうかなぁ?と思ってましたが案外マッチしていました。中でも『ラブストーリーは突然に』は最高に面白かったです。この曲はカバーされてるようであまりカバーされていません。小田さんとは全く違く、オリジナリティが良く出ていました。僕は河口さんの高音が好きです。なので最高でしたよ。派手さは全くありませんでしたが上手くまとめられていました。収録曲の中で好きな楽曲がある方は必見だと思います。今まで河口さんはあまり聴かなかったのですがこのアルバムで興味を持ちました。
