これはdownであってパンテラではない。

フィルのヴォーカルは凄く良いし、演奏も良い。
ただ、パンテラ好きな人が買うと「なんだこれ」ってなるかも・・
来日を望むバンドです。

米国南部のフィルターを通したBLACK SABBATH…結局、そんな印象が残った。もちろん、ギタリストは二人だし、ヴォーカルもあんなに粘り気があるわけないけど。

PANTERA時代とは打って変わって歌っているフィルのヴォーカルがなかなか良いし、乾いたサウンドで丁寧なプレイを聴かせるギターに絡むリズム・セクションも頑張っている。でも、肝心の曲が耳に残らないんだよなぁ。

自分の耳、脳がこうした音の先人達、B・サバスやオールマン・ブラザーズ、リーナード・スキーナードと無意識に比較してしまっているんだと思うが、それらを初めて聴いたときに受けた衝撃に比して、これはただの亜流…という風に感じてしまうのかもしれないが…。ルーツを知らない若いリスナーはこれをどう思うんだろう?

本人達が好きな事をやるプロジェクトだから、あれこれ注文つけるもんじゃないだろうが、もう一捻り、何か付け加えるなり、ディフォルメして個性を作り出して欲しい。

バンドの詳しいバイオグラフィティーは、他のレヴューにお任せして、
あのフィルが率いる、DOWNの3rd。

煙のごとく沸き立つ期待に震えながら、CDをセットして再生開始しましたが、
開始1分あたりから『ダメだこりゃ・・・』な印象。
メタリ化（＝セルアウト、売れ線）著しい、downに残念でなりません。
（別にメタリカが悪いとか嫌いとかじゃありませんよ！）

1,2ndと深化していった、彼らの持ち味である「サザングルーブ」と「メタル」の融合が、
ここにきて「売れ線狙いのただの判り易いメタル」に、成り下がった退屈なアルバム。
2ndで見せたバラエティーの芳醇さも後退。静かな曲に到っては、殆ど同じアレンジばっかり。
取ってつけた様な、おサイケなアレンジもあざといだけ。
ヘヴィーな曲も曲で、リフもソロも全く持ってイケてない。印象に残るリフも無ければ、
サザンロックの要素が薄まって、ただのメタルバンドみたいな体たらく。

あれだけ、1,2ndと聞き込んできた人間から言わせると、
売らんがために作ったとしか思えない作品。
（思えば、あれだけ充実した2ndが全く売れなかった反動もあるかもしれません）

次作では、もっと自分達の足元やルーツを見直してもらいたいものです。
それぐらい大好きなバンド＝downなだけに・・・
