小学生の頃、YMOと富田シンセは未来そのものだった
あれから約30年、シンセサイザー、シークェンサー、サンプラーはアマチュアでも
買える、扱えるものとなったが、進化・進歩するエレクトリック・インストゥルメント
でも補完できないものがある

それは芸術家の技術
演奏はもちろん解釈、編曲

YMOの素晴らしさは「3人とも稀代の天才的”演奏者”」ということに立脚しているし、
富田の凄さは「稀代の”作曲家であり、編曲家”」ということに立脚している
（もちろんブライアン・イーノもクラフトワークも、近年では高木正勝も半野喜弘も）

再現性を高めているディジタル・レコーディング・システムをしても、単に感性を
伸ばすに留まる。僕は技術に裏打ちされない感性を信じない

ここにある富田シンセの音は、今や懐かしい未来の音なのかもしれない
それはモーグ・シンセサイザーの音だからという意味ではない
未来に向かって期待されたディジタル・ミュージック・パフォーマーが
あの頃の未来となった今、あまりに希少だった。。。という意味で

輝かしい音楽の未来を1979年に宣言したこのアルバムは、「雪が踊っている」
「月の光」に代表される光を今でも放っている。子供の僕は未来って素晴らしいと感じた
しかし、30年近くの未来に在って、30年前の未来のほうが輝いていたかもしれないと
過去から届けられる一筋の光に一抹の不安を感じる

７４年発表。本作以前にも作品を発表しているようだが、この『月の光』が実質的な最初の作品とすべきであろう。ＴＯＭＩＴＡはシンセサイザー・ミュージックの第一人者であり、その地位は時代がいくら変わっても不動であろう。初期シンセサイザーはＴＯＭＩＴＡが愛用したＭＯＯＧを含めてそのほとんどが機械そのものであり、また巨大で高価だった。そのＭＯＯＧをここまで使いこなし、素晴しい作品を発表したということは、ただ単純に「凄い」という言葉で方付けられないものがある。おそらく開発者であったＭＯＯＧ博士であっても、初期のシンセサイザーがここまでの可能性を秘めたものであったとは思っていなかったであろう。シンセサイザーというものは当初、楽器と言う認識は持たれておらず、単なる飛び道具という扱いがほとんどだったと思う。実際問題として操作が難しすぎて音を出すことすらほとんど出来ない機械で、まともにメロディすら奏でられない代物であったはずである。その機械だったシンセサイザーを楽器として認識させたＴＯＭＩＴＡの功績がなければ、現在のシンセが当たり前の音楽シーンはもっと遥か先になっていたのかもしれない。そんな気がする。本作には効果音機械としてのシンセは全く聞かれず、全てが美しい楽音である。クラシックを題材にしたということにはそこに意味があるのだ。ここに気付かないと本作の真意は分からないと思う。この作品は完成はしたものの、日本では相手にされず海外からの発表となった。シンセサイザーの当時の扱いが非常に良くわかるエピソードだが、クオリティだけとれば当時の音楽のレベルなどかるく超越している内容である。ドビッシーもさぞご満悦のことだと思う。

昔、レコードで持っていて、スリ切れる程聴いたものです
久しぶりに聴いてもヤハリ新鮮。故荻昌弘氏の解説文が懐かしい
