数々の幻想的な武術シーンが繰り返され、武侠小説の奥深いところまでは理解はできていませんが、美的な”静と動”の間合いにずいぶん魅了されてしまいます。
ゆったりと流れる大河のごとく、絵巻物のごとく、大らかにストーリーは続くのですが、節目節目にビシッとした俊敏な武術が披露されるのです。
これと並行して、二つのロマンスが組み合わさり、ストーリーにスパイラルな膨らみを持たせています。
この二つのロマンスも美的な”静と動”の間合いを取っており、余情が響き渡ってきます。
香港・中国映画の武術シーンはワイヤーアクションが多く使われており、不思議とそれが分かっていても違和感がなく受け止めることができ、ファンタジーな世界をうまく描写しています。
チャン・ツィイーは、やはり「初恋のきた道」の方が印象深いのですが、この作品でもかなりのアクセントとなっており、武術シーンとロマンスにフレッシュに光るものがあります。
チャン・ツィイーが演じるラストシーンは、壮大なパノラマが繰り広がり、美しく夢が広がる映像です。

中華的アクションが画かれているのに、話は重厚で、かつ喜劇も交じっていたりしてバランスいいです。面白い。
この作品では、清朝の女性の社会的抑圧を軸として、二人の女性を対比されながらもからみあい進んでいきます。
本編では人が空を飛んだり自由自在に動き回りますが、これは向こうの武侠小説や映画でいう、軽功といわれたものです。
武芸の達人となると体内に流れる「気」(→※オーラではない。万物生成消滅のもとであり、つねに流動的で作用するなど諸説色々ある)の流れを操り内力を生み出す内功を鍛えた人がよく得意とする。
金庸先生などの武侠小説を読まれるとおわかりになると思います。

飽くまでフィクションなので、どうしてあんなに高くジャンプ出来る
のか、壁を普通に歩けるのか、人間離れし過ぎているとお思いになる方が
多いと思いますがその辺はご勘弁を・・・。

これはこれで１つの世界観、伝説を描いているのだと思います。例えるなら
「スター・ウォーズ」や「ロード・オブ・ザ・リング」等のような、現実の
領域とは全く別の、独創的な舞台における物語という事なのでしょう。

中国の史劇としてではなく、そうした御伽の世界の話だと承知の上でご覧に
なるとそれほど悪い作品には映らないと思います。　　　　　　　　　　　

配役はかなり豪華だと思います。　チャン・ツィイーといえば、「ＨＥＲＯ」も
作品全体が本作と少し雰囲気が似ていると思います・・・。
