2007 debut album by the DC born R&B singer who was signed to Capitol Records and scored none other than uber producer Rodney Jerkins to helm his first sessions. Holiday (nee Nahum Gryms) comes from a Gospel background, with his mother being an ordained minister and his eldest sister having sung backing vocals for Crystal Waters. Includes the addictive debut hit single 'Bed'.

とにかくBEDだけで買いです。
すっごいムーディーなのにキャッチー。

アルバム全体としては良くも悪くも外さないR&Bと感じました。
これからにも期待しています。

クリスブラウンとひと悶着あったって話の「BED」ですが個人的にはJのこの声で正解だと。
MTVでビデオ見かけた時から姿も声も引き付けられるものがありました。ちょっと異色とゆうか、独特の存在感が。
最近、ノリで聞くだけの音楽が多い中、久々にヘッドフォンでじっくり楽しみたい作品です。
オススメ!

Old Shoolを聞いていたほうがマシ、と囁かれるアメリカＲ＆Ｂ界ですが、そこにJ.Holidayなる大型新人が現れ、現代のＲ＆Ｂが復活なるか！？と、多大な期待が寄せられている、ＤＣ生まれの人物です。

シングル”ＢＥＤ”はビルボードＲ＆Ｂカテゴリーで＃１を獲得。ＢＥＴ.comではＮｅｗ　Ａｌｂｕｍにこのアルバムが取りあげられているおかげで、発売前でも全曲をフルで視聴でき、”まさに期待されているな”、というのが表立っています。

さて、J.Hoilday。23歳。シンガーソングライター。Singerroom.comのインタビューによると、”Old Shoolから影響を受け、なかでもMarvin Gayから強い影響を受けている”と。

アルバム全体的にラブソングが主流です。ラブソングといっても、切なくてしっとりとした歌詞というより、元気なかんじで、いまどきの男の子っぽさが出ています。Old Shool調な曲も数曲あります。

1曲目"Back of My Lac"は、アルバムタイトルBack of my にもなってるわけですが、考えごとや一人になりたいときは自分のキャデラックにこもる、というところからきている曲名で、彼自信のことを歌っている曲。

2曲目"Ghetto"はアップテンポでリアルメッセージな曲。Old Shool調で、でもHIPHOP調な部分もあり。

3曲目"Thug Commandments"、laid-backなOld Shool調。

4曲目"BED"、Ｒ＆Ｂカテで＃１を獲得したにふさわし、メローだけど元気なラブソング。恋する男の子っぽいかわいいところがグっときます。Quite Sormな曲だけど、Wordyなので歌詞が長く、間奏なんてなくて始まりから終わりまでずーっと歌いっぱなし。

5、6曲と、アップテンポ。
5曲目はＵｓｈｅｒでも歌っていそうな、いまどきのＲ＆Ｂ。
6曲目は、BETでは"Good for each other"という曲名になっています。

7曲目"come here"は、アップテンポじゃないけれど、ラップ調な低音がきいた曲。
8曲目"Be With Me"、たしか、この曲が1番最初にシングル発売されたやつ。クラブでかかるのにふさわしい曲。いまどきの曲調です。

9曲目、10曲目、と、Slow Jamです。なんだか、Janet Jacksonにありそうなかんじの曲調。

11曲目"without you"、Old Shool調。

12曲目"Pimp in Me"。個人的には、なんじゃそりゃ?的なタイトルですが、ラブソングです。

14曲目"Fallin"は、ブルース調というのでしょうか、ロック調とでもいうのでしょうか、そんなかんじが入っているかんじ。
