前作「around the city」では、ついにブラジリアン・ポップ・ヴォーカリストになってしまってジャズ・ピアニストのイリアーヌはどうなったの？と少し寂しい思いでした。
しかし、１年半ぶりの今作は彼女のジャズ・ピアノとジャズ・ヴォーカル、しかもなんとビルエヴァンスへのトリビュート・アルバムです。
彼女のピアノが聴きたいファンには、盆と正月が一緒にやってきたような嬉しいアルバムです。
彼女は以前「Plays Jobim」で第2期エヴァンス・トリオの黄金期を支えたエディ・ゴメス、ジャック・ディジョネッ トと組んだこともありビル・エヴァンスの思いは強い感じでしたがそれ以上に現在のパートナーでもあり最後のビル・エヴァンス・トリオのベーシストだったマーク・ジョンソンの存在が今回のアルバム制作に大きな影響を与えているようです。(実際、マークはあのスコット・ラファロのベースをこの録音で弾いています。）
どの曲もビル・エヴァンスのピアノ・タッチを感じながらイリアーヌのジャズ・ピアノをたっぷり聴けますが、中でも「ワルツ・フォー・デビー」では、まるでビル・エヴァンスがイリアーヌのヴォーカルの伴奏をしているかのような錯覚に陥ります。

女性ジャズ･ピアニスト＆ヴォーカリスト、イリアーヌ（Eliane Elias）のBill Evansトリビュート作品。
ベーシストは、ビル・エバンス・トリオの最後のベーシスト、マーク・ジョンソンを起用。
イリアーヌのボーカル曲と、ピアノ・トリオ演奏曲が半々ぐらいにあるアルバムです。16曲
目のみがオリジナル曲です。「Here's Something For You」、「Evanesque」という２曲は、
エバンスの未発表曲だそうです。17曲目はエバンスがカセットテープに残した「Here's
Something For You」の演奏（録音状態は悪い）からイリアーヌの短いボーカルへとつな
がる曲です。アルバム全体として非常に上質な曲ばかりで、曲数が多いですが、あっと
いう間に全部聴いてしまいます。特にすごく良かったのは、軽快な4曲目、センチメンタル
な10曲目、ロマンチックな12,13曲目などです。万人受けするであろう上質なアルバムだ
と思います。
自分は国内盤を聴きましたが、国内盤のボーナス・トラック18曲目が非常に良いので、で
きれば国内盤の方がよいと思います。

トリビュート盤は、時にいやらしい。マイルス、コルトレーン、エヴァンスなどスーパースターの名前を借りて商売につなげたい、という魂胆が透けて見えるからだ。しかし、この盤は、そんないやらしさがない。エヴァンスになりたかったのではないかと思われるほどの、イリアーヌの「思い入れ」が伝わってくる。素直に「エヴァンス風」に弾く。こんなにもエヴァンスを愛していたのだ。最後に、録音状態最悪のエヴァンスの未発表録音を入れるというのも、演奏状態はともかくとしていい。聴くほうも、素直にイリアーヌの思いを楽しみたい（松本敏之）
