4.0 out of 5 stars フィラデルフィア管の全盛期名演, 2009/1/11
派手なのに安定した惑星の演奏は心許して聴いていられる。木星を美しくゆったり奏でているのも特徴。フィラデルフィア管はどちらかというと弦楽器が優勢のようなイメージがあったが金管楽器も十分パワフル。
録音が古いのが玉に瑕なのだが、カラヤンのデジタル創成期の平べったい音質やレヴァインやマゼールの楽譜通りにやってみました的演奏が性に合わず、今だに惑星というとコレを聴いている。
オーマンディはマーケティングが良くなかったせいか評価は低いようだが、豪華絢爛な演奏を好むエンターテイナーで地元では大人気だったらしい。
シベリウス、Ｒシュトラウスなどがお勧めです。

私が今まで聴いた「惑星」の中で、最も「木星」の演奏時間が長いのがこの盤です。「いい加減にしてくれ」と思うほど執拗で粘着質な演奏でした。「火星」では打楽器の音がやや硬質で、後半ではそれがはめを外して暴れまくります。ただ、何となくくぐもった印象のある音質なので、あまりお薦めはできません。私の聴いたCDにはヴォーン＝ウィリアムズの「グリーンスリーヴズによる幻想曲」と「タリスの主題による幻想曲」が併録されていましたが、この盤では「火の鳥」になっていますね。「惑星」とのカップリングとしては同じくらい迫力のある「火の鳥」の方がよいのかもしれませんが、機会あらばオーマンディ／フィラデルフィア管のヴォーン＝ウィリアムズも聴いてみてください。
