ブル8にハマリ始めてから、いろんな盤のいろんなレビューを参考にいろんな指揮者のブル8を聴きまくった。その中で、まあこれが一番安心して人に、特にブルックナー初心者にはお薦めできるのではないでしょうか。クナッパーツブッシュとかシューリヒトとかフルトヴェングラーとか、昔の名演ももちろんいいけれど、なんてったってヴァントだし、ベルリンフィルだし。とにかくいい音です。金管が気持ち良く鳴らしてますが、決してうるさくない。弦はこよなく艶のある音。全体的なスケール感も見事。現代における名演の一つであるのは間違いありません。いろんな意見はあるでしょうが、ここをスタートにして、自分の好みの演奏を探していけばいいのではないでしょうか。

ギュンター・ヴァント最晩年のBMG盤に賛否両論があるのは確かです。この８番は、死の前年２００１年の録音です。ヴァントには、これより前の2000年にミュンヘンフィルと、さらに遡り93年にNDRと８番の録音があります。ケルン放送響時代の若かりしヴァントはいざ知らず、すでにブルックナー指揮者として確固たる地位を確立していた９３年、更に２０００年のミュンヘン盤の彼の８番の解釈と、今回のベルリンフィル盤に大きな違いはないように思います。固より、ブルックナーをベートーヴェン以降最も重要なシンフォニカーと位置づけていたヴァントの美学に、数年で大きな変化があろうはずもありません。彼の８番の解釈は独自のものがあります。それは、曲はブロック単位に分割され、壮大なアダージョを頂点として構築されることや、大きな休止（ゲネラルパウゼ）はあくまでパウゼであって、いたずらに音楽の連続性を予感させる意味合いや情緒感を持たせない。更に、たとえ音楽がエモーショナルな部分にさしかかっても各声部のバランスは予め約束された範囲を超えない・・等々。この解釈はすでに完成されていて、このような解釈の下、繰り返し録音もされています。そこで疑問なのは、このヴァント最晩年のベルリンフィル盤の必然性です。私はここに、折からのブルックナーブームの中、「遅れてきた最後の巨匠」として一躍脚光を浴びたヴァントに、ベルリンフィルというスパーヴィルトゥオーゾ軍団をぶつけ、これで数年は食い繋ごうというレコード会社の姑息な計算を感じてしまうのです。ミュンヘンｐｏやＮＤＲではコアなブルックナーファンかヴァントファンしか購買層になりえませんが、ベルリンｐｏとなれば売上がかなり違うのでしょう。この録音がブルックナー演奏の最高峰であることに異を唱えるものではありませんが、どうもこのディスクに必然性を感じないのは私だけでしょうか？

４楽章のコーダがもう少しテンポが速めだと良かったのですが、
３楽章の極上の美しさで星５個です。
ただ、発売当初はブルックナーの４・５・７・８・９番とも
絶賛されましたが、５番は素晴らしいものの、特に９番は
決定盤とは言いがたく、完璧主義者と言われましたが、
晩年まで下積みが長かった理由も垣間見えます。
余談ですがＢＰＯ以外のは平凡な演奏なのでお勧めできません。
