ヴァントのブルックナーは４、７、９番を持っていますが、中でも４番の出来栄えは出色と言えるでしょう。演奏、録音ともにブルックナーの世界を遺憾なく映し出しています。
それにしてもブルックナーというのは不思議な音楽家ですね。初めて聴いたときは退屈で眠たくなるだけでしたが、後から少しずつ利いてくる。美しい旋律がここかしこにちりばめられていることに驚かされる。それを見つけたときの喜び。そして人は次第にブルックナーの音楽のとりこになってしまう。
音楽を超えた恍惚境へといざなってくれる名盤だと思います。

ヴァント＆ベルリンpoのブルックナーは、その密度と音楽性の高さでいずれも永遠の輝きを放つ。
この「ロマンティック」も今後カタログから姿を消すことは決してないだろう超絶的名演だ。
どの演奏よりも厳しく頑固に楽譜を音化しているのに、事細かな指示や彫琢の鑿（のみ）跡は微塵も感じられない。
朝霧に浮かぶ山脈を見るときの、夕暮れに映える湖を見るときの、超越的な感動だけが演奏の表面から沸き立ってくる。

いや、百万言を尽くすより、まずは耳を傾けていただければ、伝えたいことは分かっていただけるだろう。
そう、鷹のように眼光を光らせた白髪、長身の老人が、職人技を超越した「神業」を指先で体現していることが。

定評あるヴァント、ベルリンフィルのコンビによる一連のブルックナーシリーズですが、今般は４番です。
手堅いのですが、スコアを深く読むことで定評あるヴァントの指揮は、ブルックナーの４番についても、ブルックナーのスコアから、重厚な箇所は重厚に、美しい旋律は美しく、極めてシンプルに、しかし、忠実に、オケに指示しています。そして銘器ベルリンフィルも、その指揮に応え、非常に聞き応えのある音を鳴らしてくれています。
こういう重厚にして、美しい音楽を聞くと、クラシック音楽を聴いていて、本当に良かったなあと思わせてくれます。録音が新しいせいもあり、音質が良いのも特記すべきです。ブルックナーファンであれば、一聴に値するアルバムだと思います。
