デヴューからしばしばアコースティックな楽曲も演奏していたアリスインチェインズのアコースティックの集大成的作品。
アリスの重く陰鬱ながらキャッチーなメロディーは、アコースティックの穏やかな演奏を通して、更に鮮明に浮かび上がる。
このアルバムは、全てのアルバムを聴いてからだとより一層楽しめると思う。
楽曲自体の良さを存分に感じて欲しい。

ドラッグから一時的に立ち直ったレインの歌は、相変わらずズバ抜けた吸引力と表現力を誇る。90年代最高のヴォーカリストのひとり。

いつもの重厚な音がむき出しのままの音楽になっている。グランジのバンドはアンプラグドで化けの皮がはがそうだが、アリスはスタジオ盤とはまた違った解釈のような気がする。当時体調が芳しくなかったレインをサポートするジェリーのヴォーカルが非常に印象的だ。主だった曲は殆ど入っているかと思うのでベスト盤しか持ってないような方にもお勧めできると思う。余談だが会場に当時メタリカのジェイソンニューステッドがいるらしく、４曲目くらいの冒頭でメタリカのエンターサンドマンのリフが弾かれたりとアリスらしからぬムードも。

20世紀末にぞくぞくと姿を現しては消えていったグランジ・オルタナティブ系ロック。そのなかでも際だっていたのがニルバーナとこのアリス・イン・チェインズだろう。本作は世紀末の混沌とした不安と焦燥感を音楽を叩き台にして具現化した大傑作で、１曲目のイントロから完全に世界没入させられる。例の「3本足犬ジャケ」アルバムとセットで聴いてください。いろんなことが見えてきます。とくに21世紀になってもなーんにも変わらない、むしろ面白くない時代だということに気付いてしまった今、是非とも聴いてください。そうでなければおっかない音楽でしたので。
