今作は派手な曲はほとんど無く最初に聴いた印象は、久々の新作にしては地味で少し物足りないアルバムだと思いました。
しかし、繰り返し聴き込めば聴き込むほどに味の増す曲ばかりで、一度ハマると戻れなくなる位の深さがあります。
聴くたびに新たな発見があり、改めてアンダーワールドの世界観の広さや面白さを感じとれ、個人的にはかなりの傑作です。B&Eのサントラやファーストアルバムが好き人にオススメです。
逆にアンダーワールド=Born slippy、Rez、Tow months off位に思ってる人と、いまだに「ダレンがいないと・・」とか言ってる人にはオススメ出来ません。

アンダーワールドの久々のアルバムですが、現在のニューレイブやらディスコパンクやら
踊れる機能を重視したものが溢れて、求められているシーンにも関わらず
相変わらず状況に左右されず、真摯な作品をドロップしてくれました。

音的にも構成的にも1stが一番近いような気がします。
無意識だそうですが本人たちもそういう方向に触れていったと語っています。

みんなで踊れるというよりは心地よいメロディに合わせて体を揺らすというような感覚ですね。
ただ全体的に、1stにあったようなダークでメランコリックなメロディではなく
ポップで開放的なメロディが包まれているような気がします。
歌心があるという感じ。

この辺りもベテランならではという職人ぶりです。
ボーンスリッピーのようなガシガシ踊れるトラックはないですが
ゆったりと踊れて、泣けるアルバムになっています。

これぞＴＯＭＡＴＯというアートワークでドロップされたアンダーワールド５年振りのオリジナルアルバム。

結果からいうと前作のロハス的な明るい開放感が個人的には心地悪かったという苦い記憶をしっかり吹き飛ばしてくれる内容でした。
以前「ＪＡＬ ＴＯ ＴＯＫＹＯ」を聞いた時
「ダークだけどなんか理想のアンダーワールドとどんどんかけ離れていくな・・」と思ってましたが・・・全くの取り越し苦労でした＾＾
このアルバムになんの心配もありません。
アンダーワールドファンは期待に胸膨らませて聴いてくださって結構です。

今作はアンダーワールドの専売特許ともいうべき「密室感」や「透き通る無機質な開放感」が今作では完全復活。
まるで脱退したダレンが戻ってきたかのようなサウンドなので
大きなカテゴリーは違いますが「２番目のタフガキ」や「ボクゥフィッシュ」が好きなＵＷファンにはきっとこのエッセンスやニュアンスは満足出来る筈です。

歌詞も今までのようなループさせ効果音として扱う以外に歌として構成させてるナンバーもあり結果曲の広がりが大幅にＵＰしていたり
アンビエントなナンバーも４打ちのパルス音などをあえて排除する事で他のダンサブルなナンバーと同等な存在感があります。

あえて言うなら全編に漂うこの硬質なひんやりとしたものは「２番目のタフガキ」の質感に近く今回はそれを更に進化したものと思います。
