ジョニ・ミッチェル5年ぶりのカムバック作である。一時は絵画に没頭するため音楽活動を離れたそうだが、創作意欲を抑えられずに復帰作を創り上げた。これが、すばらしい！出来栄えなのである。昨年の夏に家から離れて自然の中で動物達と過ごして創られたインスト曲の#1からしてジャジーでかっこいいジョニの世界が広がります。#2、#10といったようなキャッチーな曲もありますが、詞の内容は全編を通して現代社会に対する批評が垣間見えます。
ほとんどの楽器をジョニがプレイしていますが、これがスタジオミュージシャン並みにイケル！「ビッグ・イエロー・タクシー」のアコースティックギターのカッティングもかっこいい！！
新規一転してHEARMUSICから出したのも正解だったのは？
とにかく一聴の価値ありです。この世代で生まれてよかった・・・・。

1971年の名盤『ブルー』を聴いたあとにこの作品を聴きましたが、35年以上変わらぬジョニの創作力に驚きました。ジョニと同じくカナダ出身のニール・ヤングにも共通しますが、カナダ出身のシンガー／ソングライターとして、あたかも、アメリカもより肌寒い辺境で、アメリカという中心を横目に見ながら、マイペースで淡々とフォーキーなグッド・ミュージックを奏でているかのような独特の雰囲気に引き込まれますね。それでいて、歌詞には、戦争や環境破壊を憂う切迫した情動も表現されています。
歌詞つき。スーパー・ジュエル・ケース仕様。ジュエル・ケース仕様の日本盤にボーナストラックはないので、輸入盤でもいいのではないでしょうか。

待望のジョニ・ミッチェル復帰作。オリジナル新曲版では９年ぶり。
今回は聴く前から最もシリアスな作品になると聞いていましたが聴いてみて納得。音は実にシリアスです。
しかし、聴いていて辛くなるような音楽ではありません。心に切々と響く心地良いシリアスさ。
一日に何回でも聴けます。事実、買ってから今までヘビーローテーションで何度も聴いてしまっています。
改めて彼女のソングライティング能力の高さをまざまざと見せ付けられて感動しました。
オープニング曲のピアノで綴られるインスト曲から持っていかれ、良い意味で唯一無二の彼女らしい曲が繋がっていきます。
一曲一曲丁寧に作りこんでいるなぁと感じます。昔のアコースティック期の代表曲のセルフカヴァーもあります。
今回はジャケットなどどこにもジョニの描く絵が使われてないのは唯一の残念な事ですが、
芸術的なアート写真の数々が実に作品とマッチしていてこれは逆にアリです。
