2005年から行なってきた歌モノ・ライヴ「東京シャイネス」の発展形にして集大成ともいえる、ワールド・シャイネス(徳武弘文、高田漣、伊賀航、コシミハル、浜口茂外也)を従えての久々のヴォーカル・アルバム。細野晴臣にとって最も重要なルーツ・ミュージックである1940~50年代にかけてのアメリカのカントリー&ウェスタンにアプローチした作品で、自身の新旧オリジナル・ナンバーのほか、洋楽カヴァーや森高千里、坂本冬美への提供曲のリメイクなども収録されている。テクノやヒップホップといった80年代当時最先端だった音楽に刺激されて出来た「BODY SNATCHERS」や「SPORTS MEN」といった曲を見事なカントリー&ウェスタンに変身させてしまう手腕はサスガだし、ミッキー・カーチスやUAとのデュエットもゴキゲンな仕上がり。還暦を迎えた日本ポップ/ロック界の重鎮が楽しみながら作った快作といえよう。(木村ユタカ)

とても楽しい１枚。１枚通して聴くと必ずもう一度聴きたくなる。
リズムが心地よい。声も良い。演奏が素晴らしい。楽曲も楽しい。
ブックレットも綺麗で楽しい。
曲もカントリー一本というわけでなく、
カントリーカバー有り、民謡風カントリー有り、テクノのカントリーアレンジ有り
フレンチ風（？）ミラクルライト有り、エレクトロニカ交じりの夢見る約束有り
幅が広くて飽きさせない。
４０分余りと短めだが、トロピカル三部作も大体そのくらいの長さだし
実はアルバムとしては丁度良い長さなのかも。
個人的には細野ベースの低音が憎いＦｏｃａｌ　Ｍｉｎｄが一番好き。
関係ないけど、サンレコの写真で研究社の英和中辞典が映っていたが、
英和中辞典ではＦｌｙｎｇ　ＳａｕｃｅｒとＦｏｃａｌという単語は同じ頁に載っている。

もしかしたら、今までの作品の中でも
ベストかもしれない。そのくらい、今までのアルバムの中で
一番聞きやすい、飽きない、楽しめる。ここんところの、トリビュートやらに少々
辟易してたけど、狭山のハイドパークからの細野さん集大成といった
感じもアリ、期待以上のストレンジワールドを小さな円盤ひとつに
集約させてしまうあたり、さすが1947年生まれの宇宙人だ。
こっそり、一人で聞きたいもの。僕もシャイネスだから。
そしてシャイネスのライブ活動が
いつまでも続いてくれることを願うばかり。

Ｃ＆Ｗ、ブギウギ、ヒルビリーバップ等、古き良きアメリカンミュージックを2007年の細野晴臣流にアレンジしたもの。
ワールド・スタンダードやノアルイズ・マーロンタイツ、最近流行のきざしのジャパニーズ・ジャグバンド系バンド
とリンクした音楽とも言えますが、長期間醸造された味わい深さは1940年代生まれの細野さんならではのものです。

今のポップスシーンからは完全に浮いた音楽ですが、シーンにおいて一番必要とされている「音楽の喜び」がここにはあります。

ただ何曲か、曲数あわせの中途半端さを感じさせる曲もあります。
「トロピカルダンディ」作成時細野さんはあえてB面何曲かを中途半端なものとし、「泰安洋行」への（ある意味）踏み台としました。
そのため私はこの作品を表題のように、2007年の「トロピカルダンディ」と感じました。

ということは、次は最高傑作「泰安洋行」に匹敵するアルバムが登場するのでは！？
「この次はモアベターよ！」って事です。
