デビューアルバムを偶然手にして、予備知識の無いまま聴きましたが、そのあまりの完成度の高さに脱帽。
2ndを首を長くして待っていました。
そしてこの2ndですが、1stよりもさらに進化を遂げています。
1stに比べるとかなりへヴィーでアグレッシブになってます。
スリリングな曲構成、複雑でありながら決して聴きにくさを感じさせない変拍子、
超人的なテクニックながらくどさが全く無いセンスの良いドラミング、
独りよがりなテクニック重視ではなく、
バンドのアンサンブル、曲の構成をしっかり重視しつつも、
随所でセンス抜群なソロやユニゾンをキメてくるギターとキーボード。
どれを取ってもまさに規格外の出来！！
そして、このバンドの一番の特徴はメロディーの良さとボーカル。
キャッチーで心打たれるような美メロが要所要所で登場します。
ちょっとプログレをかじっただけのメタルバンドとは明らかにレベルが違う。
その中でもラスト２曲はどちらも最高の曲です。
ミディアムパワーバラード→メロディアスプログレハードっていう流れで締めくくります。
めちゃめちゃかっこいいです。
鳥肌立ちまくりです。
この２曲のせいで、アルバムを聴き終わった後が一番テンションが上がります。
思わずそのままリピートしてしまいます（笑）

本気で未来のドリームシアターを感じさせるバンドです。
1st→2ndの質の向上ぶりを見る限りでは言いすぎではないと思います。
ノルウェーからこのようなバンドが出てくるとは。。。
世界は広いですね。

音楽を聴いて感動するということが果たして幾度あるだろうか。
ましてハードロック/ヘヴィメタルであれば、それは稀である。
私がそれらを聴いて感じる感覚は、あくまで、かっこいいとか、
メロディがいいね、というものである。

私はプログレが大嫌いである。
プログレバンドの多くが、まず複雑さありきだからだ。
しかし、この作品は、一つの芸術を完成させた結果として、
複雑なものが出来上がった、という感じがする。
転調やリズムチェンジ、変拍子といったプログレ感覚は
あくまで楽曲の衝撃度や印象を、より高めるために用いられている。

本作の点数を付けるなら、100点では物足りない。
120点だ。

1)まず構築美。展開の一つ一つに全く無駄がない。
ここまで計算し尽くされた音楽は、クラシック音楽並みだ。

2)ボーカリストの素晴らしさ。
ハイトーンを聴かせることのできるボーカリストでありながら、
あえてディープな中低音域を駆使している点に凄みを感じる。

3)切り裂くようなギター。
テクニカルさは常軌を逸するが、その放つメロディと情念は
すさまじいの一語に尽きる。
個人的には、このギターに完全にノックアウトされた。
イングヴェイが小さく思えてしまった。

4)そして何より、全ての楽曲に渡り、メロディが素晴らしすぎる。

5)最後に5人のメンバーが、それこそ一丸となって攻めている。
その一体感が、作品のインパクトを極限までに高めている。

この作品に80点台をつけてしまった某誌は、またしても後世に
汚点を残してしまった。

ノルウェーのプログメタルバンド、サーカスマキシマスのセカンドアルバムです。
ファーストアルバムに比べると、よりへヴィーにアグレッシヴになりました。演奏はとてもテクニカルなんですが、テクニックにおぼれることなくかっちりとバッキングをつとめています。そして甘くてよくのびるハイトーンヴォーカルがとてつもなく素晴らしい。
またファースト同様キャッチーなメロディーとコーラス、リスナーのツボをついたギターソロ、どれをとってもデビューしてまだ2作目のバンドとは思えない素晴らしさです。
プログメタルバンドとされていますが、メロディックパワーメタルファンにもアピールする要素満載です。
とにかく素晴らしいアルバムです。お薦めの1枚です。
