このCDを初めて聞いたのがたまたま夜明け前で、外がだんだんと明るくなっていくのと見事にシンクロしてました。なんだか元気が出ました。

いかにもFreeTempo的な一枚で、
軽快に弾けて、さらっと流れていく楽曲が収録されています。
奇をてらったものがないので
安心して流せるアルバムではないでしょうか。

逆にそこが評価の分かれ目でもあるようですが。
12.Soundsのように、実験的なこともしながら
ここまで凡庸(いい意味で)に作ってあるアルバムは
なかなかないと思います。

久しぶりのフルアルバムという事で、曲数は増え聴き応えが増しています。しかし欲を言えば前作のミニアルバム程の密度感は無く不要な曲も幾つか収録されています。特にアルバムタイトルの『SOUNDS』は最後に収録されており楽しみにして聴きましたが最後まで聴く事なくイジェクトしました。
とはいえ前作のミニアルバム辺りから音作りと独自性に磨きが掛かっており、音の奥行きや厚み・深みも加わり、かなり一流のものになってきております。従来の作品で時折耳障りだった“特定パートの音色がいきなり目立つ”部分も無く、個々のパートのバランスも良く、ミキシング技術が格段に上がっています。更に、こちらも従来気になっていた「稚拙なヴォーカル」という部分も前作辺りから実力派を起用する事で作品自体の質が向上し、「日本人にもこれだけのモノが作れる」というアピールが出来るクオリティに仕上がっています。
個人的な意見としては、前作ミニアルバムで使われていたボイスサンプリングをコラージュする手法が「上手い」と密かに気に入っていたので今回もアレを使って欲しかった。
何れにしても、過去最高の作品に仕上がっている事は間違いないです。
この人FreeTEMPOの素晴らしい所は、最近のプロデューサーに目立つ「あっちこっちに手を出して名を売ろう（某YN氏の様に）」というのではなく、純粋に自分の作品を磨き上げて行こうという真っ直ぐな姿勢にある思います。
