前作「Light and Shade」以来、約2年振りの新作。
今回は、ストリングスを多用したクラシック･ミュージック的なアレンジということで、初期3部作の作風への原点回帰かと話題になっていることに加え、従来のCDに加えてフラッシュメモリでの販売も予定されているらしい。
ただ、そういった事が関係しているのか否かの事情は知らないが、当初予定の11月発売が、1月に延期され、さらに3月にまで延期されそうな状態らしい。
既に一部のサンプル盤の内容や映像が公開されていることもあり、1日も早く発売される日が待ち遠しい。
長年のファンとしての期待を込めて☆5つ。

たまげました。まともじゃん。
トレスルナスに続いてついに人間（他人）を一切関与させないでProToolとボーカルソフトだけで作ったLight&Shadeが本物のギター以外は全部電子音という少々気がかりな作り方だっただけにマイクが健全な精神を取り戻してくれたみたいでファンとしては嬉しい。
今回はレーベルからしてユニバーサル・クラシックからの発売で、２１世紀のクラシックアルバムとの位置づけの作品。電子音もコンピュータも音源としては一切なし（多分）でマイクは作曲とクラシックギターの演奏だけ。コアなファンの人はあちこちに散りばめた初期３部作からのテーマの引用を楽しめるでしょう。オーケストラは相当本格的で大人数を使ってます。共同プロデユーサーはカール・ジェンキンズ。これでミリアム・ストックリーに歌わせたらアデイマスとの合併状態か？TB2のエジンバラ城ライブでも大オーケストラは使ったけど、｢クラシック音楽｣を最初から目指したアルバムは多分マイクの人生初チャレンジだと思う。
音質と音場設計の凝りまくりは見事。ジェンキンズ先生がマイクの通訳をしてオーケストラとマスタリングを仕切ったに違いない。意思疎通障害症候群のマイクにこの大所帯の監督やリーダーシップ発揮は絶対に無理だから。SACD版も絶対に欲しい。
Light&Shadeで英国でも愛想を尽かされた感じだったけど、このアルバムならコアなファン、そこそこのファンも新規参入の別ジャンルからの音楽ファンも獲得できるのでは。
次作はまたまた振幅を大きくしてロックバンド音楽に回帰して、人気を盛り上げて再来日を果たして欲しい。

Oldfieldのサウンドには間違いはない。しかし、メリハリが無く、BGMのようだ。
Tubular Bells IIIと比べれば、生ぬるいのは歴然としている。
