Ｓ＆Ｇのベスト盤はＬＰ時代から日本独自の企画を含めて実に色々なものがあるが、現時点でＣＤ１枚ものの中から選ぶとすると、本作か「サイモン＆ガーファンクルのすべて（ＴＨＥ　ＢＥＳＴ　ＯＦ　ＳＩＭＯＮ　＆　ＧＡＲＦＵＮＫＥＬ）」のどちらかになるだろう。曲の数なら１４曲対２０曲で後者の勝ちになるし、私自身後者の選曲には満足しているが、本作にはただ歴史的作品に留まらない価値がある。まず、４曲（＃２、４、８、１１）がライヴ録音であること。＃５、９というＳ＆Ｇの大ヒット曲は何れも直前の曲への聴衆の拍手にイントロ部分が重なるという工夫をしている。ということはこれらの曲を独立して完璧に聴きたいという人には本作は向いていないということになるが。「キャシーの歌」のポールの弾き語りは「ポール・サイモン・ソング・ブック」の雰囲気を漂わせて秀逸だ。惜しいのはいつ、どこでの録音かがわかる資料が本作にはないこと。私には＃４が６６年、＃２が６９年の録音ということしかわかりません。本作のもう１つの特徴は新たにトラック・ダウンされている曲が６曲（＃５、６、７、９、１０、１４）あること。これはＬＰ時代から話題だったが、昨年発売の一連の紙ジャケ・シリーズのオリジナル曲の音と際立った違いがある訳ではない。やはり、本作の魅力はライヴ録音４曲と、７２年に彼ら自身が本作を企画して彼らの栄光の時代に幕をおろした歴史的作品であるという点に求められるだろう。それに表・裏のジャケット写真も好きだ。ボーナス・トラックはないが、２００７年デジタル・リマスターの音・紙ジャケで懐かしい作品を入手できたことに私は大満足している。

私が初めて買ったLPがこのアルバムでした。当時はすり切れるほど聞いたものです。　S&Gのベストアルバムはたくさんありますが、コンパクトかつ充実の選曲だと思います。　これって思い出のせい？

従来のベスト盤とは異なる点として、「59番街橋の歌」と「早く家へ帰りたい」が
ライブバージョンで収録されています。個人的には、こちらのアレンジが好みです。

不満な点は「真冬の散歩道」が収録されていないこと。
それと「早く家へ帰りたい」が終了するとき、フェードアウトして
次の「明日に架ける橋」にクロスフェードするという演出が凝らされているのですが、
これを存分に活かすために
「早く家へ帰りたい」と「明日に架ける橋」を最後に置いてほしかったです。
