アーティストについて

[プロフィール]
平戸祐介(Pf、Key)、松岡“matzz”高廣(Perc)、須長和広(Bass)、奥津岳(Drums) 60~70年代のオーセンティックなジャズを基盤に、グルーヴを重視したクラブビートを柔軟に取り入れ、スタイリッシュかつダンサブルなサウンドを追求。パーカッションを取り入れた変則カルテットのオリジナルメンバーを軸に、様々なゲスト・アーティストを迎え活動中。 小松正人(Slowly)をProducerに迎え制作されたデモが小林径氏の耳にとまり、2005年8月にリリースされた“Routine Jazz #07”に収録される。そしてTubby Hayesのカヴァー“Down in the village”のデモがスウェーデンの最重要レーベル“Raw Fusion”のオーナーMad Matsの元に渡り、即座に気に入った彼からのオファーを受け、2006年4月にアルバム先行という形で12インチが全世界でリリースされ、Gilles Peterson、Patrick Forge、Jazzanovaといった世界のトップDJ達によりヘビー・プレイされ世界規模で大きな話題を呼ぶ。そして2006年6月に1stアルバム「oneself-LIKENESS」をリリースし外資系CDショップのクラブ・チャートで軒並み1位を獲得、その名を国内にも知らしめた。その後Raw Fusionからの2ndシングル“Ipe Amarelo”をリリース、オリジナルに加えRaw Fusionでのレーベル・メイトでもあるUKのSpiritual SouthのREMIXを収録したこの作品はGilles PetersonのBBCでの番組WorldwideのAll Winners 2006にてTrack of the Yearにノミネートされる等全世界で高い評価を得た。日本国内は勿論、ヨーロッパを中心に世界中から熱い注目が集まる。

ピアノの凛としてメロディアスな音色、
アコースティックベースの柔らかく安定感のある響き、
パーカッションのスパイシーで躍動感溢れる音のかけら、
ドラムの引き締まった力強いリズム。
そしてそれらが重なった時に生まれる一体感。

どの要素もこのバンドに欠けてはならないものだと感じました。
一人ひとりが役割以上の仕事をしながら一つの音楽を作り上げていることが
ひしひしと伝わるような作品だと思います。

今、日本だけでなく世界でも注目されているQuasimode。
2枚目のアルバムということで、
周囲の期待も本人たちの気負いも、もちろんプレッシャーも、
なみなみならぬものだったのではないでしょうか。

良い意味で期待通り、
そして良い意味で期待を上回る出来栄え。
ダンサブルで歌心を感じるという
Quasimodeの良さはそのままに、
歌モノに挑戦するなど新しい試みも取り入れながら
前作よりももっと多彩に。

聴く人を鷲掴みにして離さない魅力みたいなものが
あると思います。
それは彼らの今の勢いと、培われた実力がそうさせているのでしょうか。

私の個人的な印象としては、
Sleep Walkerが好きな人はもちろん（中村雅人氏が参加してます）、
Jazztronikの初期〜中期作品（Set Free〜Horizon〜七色）が
お好きだという方には、是非聴いてみてほしいと思いました。

日本のクラブ・ジャズ系グループ「quasimode」の2ndアルバム
同じクラブ・ジャズ系の「スリープ・ウォーカー」に似ていて、クールなクラブ・ジャズ・ナンバーが中心です。
全曲上質で、特に5,9,10が飛び抜けていい感じです。ボーカル・ナンバーもありますが、ゲスト・ボーカル
のCarmen Rundyが非常に良い味を出していてすばらしい曲になっています。
もっと知名度が上がってほしいグループです。
