5.0 out of 5 stars 北欧の大自然を喚起させるグリーグ, 2009/2/21
　ツィマーマンは今や押しも押されぬ大ピアニストであるが、その名声に比して録音数は少ない。ツィマーマンが自身の録音を世に出すのには大変慎重であるためである。しかし、世に出す度にその録音は他の演奏家とは一線を画した完成度の高さと注目を浴びてきた。ショパンコンクールの優勝者であるから、ショパンの演奏にかけては比類のない高みに達しているが、その他の演奏についてもツィマーマンの「完璧」というビジョンを具現化している演奏が幾つかある。その一つがこのロマン派を代表する二曲のピアノ協奏曲である。
　カラヤン指揮のベルリンフィルをバックに得て、ツィマーマンの緻密で繊細なピアニズムが発揮されているが、シューマンはあまり良くない。あまりにも緻密さと繊細さを追求するがゆえに音楽が停滞してしまっている。柔和な抒情の第二楽章は良いとしても、第一、第三楽章は管弦楽の響きも薄く、シューマンの内炎のロマンが表現されていない。一方、グリーグはこの曲の演奏史を塗り替えるほどの名演である。豪放磊落、悪く言えば粗雑に演奏されがちなこの曲に対し、ツィマーマンはそれとは全く対照的と言えるほどクリアなタッチと繊細な表現でアプローチしている。もちろん力強い部分ではそれなりのウィルトゥオージを発揮している。バックもそれに寄り添うように丁寧な表現を心がけている。聴いているうちに北欧の大自然が眼前に現れるようである。豊かな想像とファンタジーの喚起力、これほどの演奏はほとんど皆無だろう。若きツィマーマンと帝王カラヤンの底力を見せ付けられる演奏である。
