大傑作、ドルフィーの素晴らしさは勿論ですがブッカー・リトルが奇跡的なプレイを聴かせる。
（いつに無い、驚くべき明哲なアドリブ・メロディーライン！！！）
チューニングのズレたピアノを効果的に操るマル・ウォルドロンも
アーシーなフィーリングを発散してイヤが上にも盛り立てています。
ドラムとベースの御両人も渥美のある基礎音を構築して完璧。

隕石級の衝撃。音圧とフレーズで切り裂く空気。頭の中で砂塵が舞い上がる。 天才がどれだけ練習したらこんなことが成し得るのか。なめてると殺られるぞ。

これほど熱気を感じるアルバムもそうない。ライブである点を差し引いてもエリック・ドルフィー以下の爆発的な情念、エネルギーは止められない。５０年代からチャールス・ミンガスのグループで前衛的な活動を展開していたドルフィーと盟友マル・ウォルドロンが全体の雰囲気をお膳立てし、若き天才ブッカー・リトルの火を吐くようなトランペットがかぶさる。さらにヘビー級のベーシスト、リチャード・デイビスとエド・ブラックウェルのリズムが煽りたてる。映画スイングガールズで竹中直人演ずる教師がジャズのすばらしさを説くときにこのアルバムがフリー・ジャズの凄さの象徴として紹介したときは嬉しかった。リトルとドルフィーはこのあと立て続けに夭逝してしまい、夢の共演は文字通り真夏の夜の出来事と化した。が、若者たちの青春が渦巻く熱演は人々の記憶から決して消えることなく、次なる新たなジャズの胎動へと誘っていくのである。惜しむらくはドラムがややイモっぽいブラックウェルでなく、シャープなトニー・ウイリアムスかロイ・ヘインズあたりだとさらに面白かったと感じるのは僕だけではないだろう。
