　編み物をするグルミットはかわいい。と同時に、彼の人（犬）柄を現していて、見る側としても、いっそうこのストーリーに共感できるようになっている。ペンギンを追うために、汽車の線路をたしていくところは笑える。はじめて見たひとも愉快そうだった。
　奇抜なアイディアもさることながら、このシリーズの価値は、ていねいな作りにある。古びた建物の壁、ブリキのダストボックスのよごれ、木製の家具の傷、ドアをながれる雨のしずく等々質感の高さは見るものの目をたのしませる。独創的で完成度の高いアニメだ。
　ひとつだけ気になったのは、よこしまなペンギンの登場である。こういうアニメの世界でも、犯罪の要素を持ちこまないと話がまとまらないのか、あるいは、ひたすら無邪気なお話では世間にうけいれられないのか、という疑問である。

なんといっても、ペンギンとウォーレス＋グルミットの室内大追跡のシーンは、フレンチ・コネクション [DVD]の地下鉄vs車に匹敵する映画史に残る名追跡シーン．．．かな。少なくともクレイアニメ史に燦然と輝く、2作目にして最高傑作です。
