1998年40歳にしての衝撃的なデビューから10年を迎え、満を持してスタートする全国90公演を超える「10周年記念ツアー2007-08」に先駆け、綾戸智絵の10年から選りすぐりの感動のバラード集が誕生。コンサート会場での支持も高い全15曲の中には、初期の綾戸智絵作品を代表するゴスペルバラード、「アメイジンググレイス」やエルトン・ジョンの名曲「ユアソング」をはじめ、初出となるピアノトリオ版の「マイファニーヴァレンタイン」や、綾戸智絵の名を知らしめた「テネシーワルツ」の日興アセットマネジ

【アーティストについて】
1998年6月に発売された一枚のCD「For All We Know」が日本中のジャズ・ファンを熱狂させたが、40才の主婦綾戸智絵の衝撃のデビューは、その後数々生まれた綾戸伝説の序曲にすぎなかった。1957年9月10日大阪府生まれ。両親の影響でジャズとハリウッド映画に囲まれて育つ。3才でクラシック・ピアノを始め、教会ではゴスぺルを歌い始める。中学時代からナイト・クラブでピアノを弾き、17才で単身渡米。ロサンジェルスと大阪を行き来する生活が始まった。その後、ニューヨークでゴスペル・クワイヤーのメンバーに加わり、結婚。一児をもうけるが離婚。91年帰国後は、通訳、英語の観光ガイド、デパートの販売員、ジャズ・ボーカルの教師など数々の職業を経験しながら、大阪のジャズ・クラブなどで歌い始める。98年6月、40才にしてアルバム「For All We Know」(98/6/21)でプロ・デビュー。以来、年間100回以上のコンサートで歌い続けている。デビュー当時から今に到るまで、常にチケットが完売となる為に、最もチケットが手に入らない歌手と呼ばれている。2001年3月に第51回芸術選奨文部科学大臣新人賞(大衆芸能部門) 受賞、同年11月化粧品会社のAVON が、その年に最も社会に貢献し、輝きを放った女性を選出する「AVON Awards To Women」の「芸術賞」を受賞。

綾戸智絵の魅力は生のステージに限る、と思っています。あの抱腹絶倒のＭＣと歌の取り合わせは抜群で、コンサートを聴き終えますといつも元気をもらって帰ります。

そんな彼女のステキなバラードを集めたデビュー10周年記念ベストアルバム『Ballads』を聴いています。半年ほど前に購入し、繰り返し聴いてきましたが、その凄みのある魂の叫びに圧倒されっぱなしで、コメントを書く勇気がなかなか出ません。それほど真正面から歌と向き合っているのはどの曲からも感じられました。

エルトン・ジョンの「Your Song」もオリジナルよりもずっとジャジーです、いやブルースと言ったほうが良いのでしょうか。人生の辛酸をなめ、2度のガン手術を乗り越え、声の出なくなる恐怖に打ち勝ち、そして心から歌を愛するアヤドだからこそ、このような絶唱が生まれるのでしょう。ただの歌手ではないのは当然ですが、こんな深い歌い回しができるシンガーを聴いたことがありません。その歌詞に込められた気持ちの発露がストレートに伝わってきてリスナーの琴線に触れ、涙腺を揺さぶります。
アヤドの魅力は、生のステージに尽きますが、ＣＤを聴きながらここまで人を感動させる歌手もまた稀有な存在です。好き嫌いを超越した歌がそこには存在しています。その内面から出てくるジャズの魂は、他の日本人アーティストにはないものがありますね、本当に。

弾き語りの「My Way」も情感を内に秘めたような押さえた歌唱がまたいいですね。盛り上げ方、感情移入も申し分なく、ステキなバラードでした。そしてお馴染みの「Tennessee Waltz」の日興TVCFヴァージョンも収録されていますので、納得のできるバラードアルバムでしょう。

歌詞も対訳も付いていますが、いつものように彼女の曲に対するコメントがあればもっと良かったとファンは感じていると思いますので。

いろいろな曲があって、面白いＣＤですが、もう少し切れ味がほしい、そんな感じがします。

このCDにはCMでも耳なじみとなった「テネシー・ワルツ」が収録されている。それだけでも買いの要因じゃないかなあ。

その「テネシー・ワルツ」を聴いたうちの父親は「気取った歌い方だなあ」と、どうも綾戸智絵はお気に召さなかった様子。まあねえ、綾戸智絵の歌って、少し荒っぽいかなと思うこともあるのは事実。万人向けとは言えないのかもしれない。でも、好きな人はすごく好きになれると思うのね。原曲のかけらもないくらいに荒っぽくアレンジしちゃうけど、そこがまたいいのさ。
