   歌の上手さとエンターティメントをバランスよくもつメル・トーメ。リアル・タイムの刺激を音楽に反映させるというジャズ・ミュージシャン的な資質で歌う彼は、当然のことながら観客を目の前にしたライヴは得意だ。場所は1950年代トーメがよく出演していたハリウッドのクラブ「クレッセンド」。メル・トーメ31歳の時の実況録音盤は彼の代表作であるばかりか、ジャズ・ヴォーカルのライヴ盤としてはまさに理想的なもので、名盤の誉れ高い1枚。伴奏するのはこの時期のトーメがピアニストとして、またアレンジャーとして最大限の信頼を寄せているマーティ・ペイチ以下4人。
   ライヴ盤なので、トーメの軽妙なMC、観客の反応、ドン・ファガーキスト (tp）らのリラックスしたアドリブも楽しめる。<6>は有名なシャンソン。<2>はトーメ20歳のころに結成していた「早すぎたジャズ・コーラス・グループ」メル・トーンズのレコードが有名な、トーメ得意の曲。硬軟取り混ぜたジャズのライヴ盤かくあるべし！ といった名盤。（高木宏真）
