Yellowcardの5th。プロデュースは引き続きNeal Avaon。
前作が路線変更を試みた意欲作だったこと、結果セールスが振るわなかったことをふまえての今作は
「Ocean Avenue」の頃の性急さを取り戻しつつ、表現の幅を広げる事に成功した秀作になった。

疾走感とヴァイオリンの絡みが心地よいM-1、M-2、M-7、M-8あたりは彼らの真骨頂だが、
ミッド・テンポで味わい深いメロディを聴かせるM-5、M-11、M-13や
アコースティックでスケール感のあるM-6など、ソング・ライティングに広がりを感じさせる。
サウンド・プロダクションも前作のスッキリした分離のよい音質から、アンサンブルがかたまって出てくる
パンチのあるロックぽい音質に変更。

前作でバンドとして同じ事を続ける危惧を感じて、意欲的に新しい方向性を模索した成果は
今作にて結実したのでは。
「Ocean Avenue」の頃も素晴らしいが、今の彼らも非常にいいバンドになったと思う。

前作はどうもギターとバイオリンのバランスがイマイチだった。当然彼らに期待するもののひとつがアップなチューンで絡んでくるバイオリンであり、だからこそ「ocean avenue」が名盤である所以なのだろうけど、今作ではギターもバイオリンも、ともに進化したプレイを見せてくれるし、絡み合い、ハイトーンなボーカルが映える。1. Takedown などで印象的だ。
そしてもうひとつ、彼らに期待しているものは、その作り出すメロディーのセンスの高さ。「raugh draft」「back home」「words,hands,hearts」など、各アルバムに一曲はミドルテンポの泣かせるキラーチューンがあって、そして今作にもそれがある。5. Light Up the Sky 。
さらに、キャリアを重ねてもまだ疾走するような蒼いチューンを、高い演奏技術で見せてもくれる。8. Afraid 。私はこの曲が一番好きだ。
今作は確実に彼らのキャリア最高作となったし、彼らは確実にエモシーンのトップバンドであるといえるのではないか。

一通り聞きましたが、率直にいいです。
個人的には今までのアルバムの中で一番好きです。

バイオリンの音色を前面に押し出したしっとり系の曲が多かった前作がセールス的にイマイチだったのを踏まえてか、今作は1stのようにパンク系の曲が多くなってます。

全く捨て曲なしですが、特に1,2,8は王道イエローカードサウンドという感じで気に入りました。
しっとり系では4,11がいいです。

夏のドライブにも最適の1枚です！
