2枚同時発売となった、「Rod Snake Shock Service」と「CHELSEA」。発売前のインタビューで、浅井氏本人は、「『Rod』はポップな感じ、明るい感じのアルバム」と紹介している。

初めて聞いた感想では、2枚のアルバムの曲調は若干違うけれど、どちらもやはり浅井健一独特のメロディラインと世界観に溢れており、「2枚に分ける必要があったのか？」という意見が出るのにも頷ける。しかし、さらに聞き込むにつれ、「Rod〜」は、肌で感じた『暮らし』の中から生まれた作品集であり、一方の「CHELSEA」は、足元の『暮らし』から飛翔し、空高くから、自分を含む世界全体を深く見つめ、この世とそうでない世との狭間を漂う中から生まれたもので構成されていることに気付くのではないだろうか。

そもそも、Blankey Jet City　の頃から、氏は、現実とそうでない世界の間を自由に行き来し、それを楽曲として発表してきていたような気がする。

今回は、意識的にか無意識にか、氏に内在する二つの世界が非常に明確になり、2枚組ではなく、別のアルバムとして同時発売という結果に終結したのではないかと感じている。

というわけで、私は「Rod〜」を、「日常のささやかな出来事に幸せと希望を見出したい方」に、お薦めする。

元々ブランキー時代の歌詞の凄さのひとつに、全ての曲が1曲1曲確固とした世界観、架空の街のある具体的な情景を描写している事にあって。今回の『Rod〜』では久々にその散文性が戻って来たと思いました。もちろんSHERBETSやJUDE時代にもそう言った散文性はあるにはありましたが、しいていうならそれは別なパズルの別なピースを感覚ではめ込んだ様な歌詞も多く、そこに更に「宇治金時」や「冷麺」等の単語が登場すると、少しゲンナリしてしまいましたが。今回は違い。歌詞でももちろん最近のロック的な事にこだわらないベンジー全開の「しょうゆ」や「リサイクル」とかバンバン登場しますが、このアルバムの中ではそれらのロック的ではない歌詞がすんなり受け入れられ違和感なく耳に入り込んで来ます。それはベンジーがブランキー時代の歌詞を聴いた感覚というか、1曲1曲で確固とした世界観、場面、描写、情景が確立している事に通じていると思います。だからこのアルバムはすごく1曲1曲で1個の世界を味わえるようなベンジーに戻った!と思いました。で、個人的に一番かっこいいのは2曲目「DEAD ROCK STAR」♪ボロボロのマセラッティーでタワーブリッジから翔ぶって…すごい

相変わらずかっこいい。
２枚同時発売で両方買ったけど、本当にどっちもかっこいい。
ブランキーみたいにいきなりガツンとやられる感じとは違うけど、音がしなやかで生き物みたいに迫ってくる。
ブランキーのベンジーもシャーベッツのベンジーもユダのベンジーも全部混じってる感じ。
聴けば聴くほどベンジーの世界観が頭ん中に広がっていく。
もはや一曲一曲が物語。量も多くて質も高まり続けている。
一体なんだんだ、この人は。
