チェロ奏者であり、作曲家の溝口肇自身が選んだ2枚組のベスト・アルバムです。ソニー所属の1986年から1992年に発売されたアルバムの中から27曲が選ばれています。全て溝口肇が作曲したものですし、1998年の「世界の車窓から」は、ビクターの音源になりますが、長寿のテレビ番組のテーマとしてお馴染みのものですから収録してあります。

「P・e・a・c・e」が好きです。バッハの無伴奏チェロ組曲のような趣をもった曲ですし、パブロ・カザルスの「鳥の歌」を彷彿とするような平和を希求する思いが切々と感じられます。宗教的でもありますし、深い精神性を湛えた音色からは、癒しと合わせて救いが感じ取れました。
「ONE」には、溝口肇の歌唱も吹きこまれています。詩は覚和歌子のもので、上手いとは言えませんが、ピュアな気持ちが感じ取れる美声でした。

ヒーリング・ミュージックというジャンルに含まれるのでしょうが、現代的な音楽潮流を知り得ながら、独自の音楽路線を確立してきたように受け取っています。チェロの多重録音というのも面白い試みですし、様々なアンサンブルとの共演もまた変化に富んでいます。難解な音楽ではありませんし、曲も美しいですが、それ以上に作曲家の豊かな感性が感じ取れる曲群です。

この「オーガニック･スタイル」シリーズというのは、ソニーに所属している村松健、クライズラー＆カンパニー、日向敏文、中西俊博、Ｇ−クレフ、溝口肇というクラシックとポップスの間のジャンルに属するアーティストのシリーズです。これらの音楽を総称してニュー・エイジ・ミュージックと言われたことがありますが、定着した音楽ジャンルの造語とはいえないでしょう。
