内容紹介

顔を変え、生まれ変わる男“ダークマン”とはいったい何者なのか?遺伝子工学に心血を注ぐペイトン(リーアム・ニーソン)は、希望に燃える若き科学者。ところが弁護士をしている恋人ジュリー(フランシル・マクドーマント)が手にした収賄事件の証拠書類がもとで、殺し屋一味に襲われ、瀕死の大火傷を負ってしまう。辛くも一命を取り留めた彼は、全身を人工皮膚で覆い隠し、暗闇の超人ダークマンとして復活。絶望を復讐心に変えて、マスクを使った変装テクニックで犯罪組織の撲滅に立ち上がる。ある日突然パワーを手に入れたヒーローの苦悩を、息もつかせぬ展開で描いた本作は、まさに「スパイダー・マン」の原点!摩天楼の上空で宙吊りになったまま繰り広げられるクライマックスの空中戦まで、度肝を抜く見せ場の連続で描く痛快作だ。

ギャングによって大やけどを負わされ死にかけた主人公が、人工の皮膚を身にまとい復讐をしていくというお話です。

『スパイダーマン』シリーズのサム・ライミ監督の作品で、その原型もちらほら見える作品。
ただ、マスクとスーツを身につけて正体を隠すスパイダーマンに対してこちらは人間の皮を被る（人工だけど）わけですから、それだけでもダークな匂いがします。

お話は決して明るくはならないものの全てを失った主人公の悲哀がよく表現されており深みがあります。

ラストシーンの余韻も素晴らしく、ダークヒーロー物としては出来の良い作品でしょう。

スパイダーマンですっかりハリウッドの頂点に立った死霊のはらわたライミ監督。本作もアメコミノリのアクションで、スパイダーマンとも共通点も多い。ライミにとっては初のメジャー路線のけっこう金のかかったアクション映画となっており、後半のヘリを使ったスタントシーンなどは凄い迫力。だが、話が非常に悲惨で爽快感がなく、無駄なところに妙に力を入れていたりと、初のメジャー路線大作を少し持て余し気味のところも。要所要所では光るものがあるが、作品全体としてはまとまりが悪く、ライミ節全開とはなっていない。本作の後、しばらくライミ監督はブランクがあったと思うが・・・。

『死霊のはらわた』『スパイダーマン』のサムライミが贈る異色作です。
当時、観ましたが、中々、面白い作品でした。全身、炎に包まれた男が、
復讐の為に立ち上がる、アクション映画です。
