Marc　Broussardについては８２年産まれのSSWとしか情報は持ち合わせてはいない。
しばらく前にあるブログでこのアルバムの事を知り、たまらず注文していたものだ。
ジャケットの感じからは窺えないがこのアルバムはSOULカバー集である。しかも極上の。
マークのヴォーカルを一聴して白人だとわかる日本人は恐らくひとりもおるまい。
たまらず注文した理由はその選曲にある。
全１１曲中１０曲がSOUL　CRASSICの名曲カバーなのだ。

１１．Come　In　From　The　Cold　のみMarcのオリジナルである。

このオリジナルがまた素晴らしいんだ。１０曲の名曲群に一歩も引けをとらない出来で、力を抜いたMarcのヴォーカル、スティーヴィー風のハーモニカ、それからフェンダー・ローズ・ピアノの揺らめきやオルガンが私の心を掴んで離さない。

１の歌い出しから絶好調のヴォーカル全開で、Marcの世界に引き込まれてしまう。
個人的には３、６、７が気に入っている。
６のラストではマーヴィンのあの名曲のサワリが流れてくるところがご愛嬌。
それにしても、それほど簡単ではない楽曲を臆することなく完璧に歌いこなしているのは凄い。

思えば、アメリカ開拓の労働力としてアフリカ大陸から連れてこられ、支配の道具として宗教を押し付けられながら、賛美歌を独自のゴスペルに昇華させたアフリカ系アメリカ人は、足掛け4世紀にして白人文化をここまで侵略してしまったとも言えよう。
なんという生命力よ。

この人のアルバム、『Carencro』を聴いてボーカルの強さ、優しさを体感してはまってしまった。 このアルバムはカバーアルバムだが、オリジナルを相当聴き込んだのは一目(一聴?)瞭然。 一気に聴けるアルバムになっている。 しがも日本人にも聴きやすい内容。なぜ評価されないのかが不思議。 本当に実力のあるアーティストが日本で評価されないなんて…。 売り上げ至上主義のavexやジャニーズの犯行なのか?

うーん。これは良い。しかも白人でこれほどソウルフルに歌い上あげるシンガーもめずらしい。今から次作が大いに期待できる。
オリジナルと比較したくなってしまうが、そこはガマンして彼の歌に没頭した方が彼の良さが引き立つと思う。
１曲（最後の曲）を除いてすべて名曲のカバーであるが、本人も相当聴き込んだであろうと思う。まったく歌が上手い人は得でうらやましい限り。
思わず友人に勧めてしまいたくなるアルバムである。
