1stと2ndの間に3年という時間を費やした彼等の時間からすると、3rdにあたる本作が前作から僅か1年でリリースされたというのは一つの驚きです。タイトルである"Works"を直訳すれば"作品集"。即ち、(新作/書き下ろしも含まれていますが)これまで彼等が演じた作品の焼き直しということになります。
がしかし、"焼き直し"などという言葉を使うのは間違い(^^; アレンジを替えて、、、という言葉もちょっと違うような気がしますが、要はそれだけ作品そのものが潜在的な"幅"を持っており、ちょっと演じ方を変えただけなのにこれだけ新鮮に響いてくるという事なのだと思います。
私はSLEEP WALKERを知る前にファラオ・サンダースの80s作品を中心にハマっていたのですが、感触としての類似性はともかく、彼等の1stを初めて耳にした時にその精神的なつながりのようなものを非常に強く感じたのを覚えています。
これだけ音楽もミュージシャン/グループも多様化が進んだ現代において、コマーシャリズムやメディア評だけに媚たり立脚していない確固たるアイデンティティと圧倒的な演奏力およびそれを支える確とした技術力。ジャズが変化し続ける音楽だとすれば、彼らもまた変化し続けることでしょう。本当にウォッチし続けたいと思わせるグループです。

毎回洗練された音を聞かせてくれますが、今回はリワーク物が中心となってる事もあり、さらに洗練されていて、まさに隙の無い格好良さですね。
特に、この手のバンドは最近多く見かけられますが、SLEEP WALKERは１歩も２歩も抜きん出ているのではないでしょうか。
夏にはツアーもあるようなので、そちらも非常に楽しみです。
