モーガナ・キングは1930年6月4日、ニューヨーク郊外のプレザントヴィル生まれ。
56年、マーキュリーから『For You , For Me , Forever』でレコード・デビュー。その後、RCA/カムデン、ユナイテッド・アーティスト/アスコット、20世紀フォックスとレーベルを渡り歩き、64年にメインストリームへ。同レーベルのボブ・シャッド・プロデュースによる『A Taste Of Honey』がチャート・イン。65年にフランク・シナトラの推薦もあって彼が主宰するリプリーズへ移籍。その後もヴァーヴ、パラマウント、ミューズ、サヴォイ、CBSソニーなど、計30枚以上の作品をこれまで残している。
本作は彼女の74年作にあたり、アメリカのパラマウント・レコードからリリースされている。アレンジャーに盟友、トリー・ジトに加え、当時、CTIレコードに在籍しクロスオーバーの一躍を担っていたピアニスト、ボブ・ジェームスを迎えて、彼女の新境地を切り開いた作品として知られている。スティービー･ワンダーの「You Are The Sunshine Of My Life」やケニー・ランキンの「Like A Seed」等、ソウルやソフト・ロックの名曲を取上げており、ここ日本では90年代中頃に「フリー・ソウル」の括りで紹介されたことを記憶されているリスナーの方も多いであろう。
また、近年、欧米の音楽シーン、ことクラブ・ジャズ・シーンでは「フォーキー」が一つのキーワードになりつつあるが、本作は「Suburbia Favorite Shop」の「フォーキー」をテーマにセレクトされたもの中の一枚であり、他にテリー・キャリアー、ミニー・リパートン、アメリカン・ジプシーなどが同時にリリースされる。
