ギターの音色がプラグにそのまま突っ込んで弾きまくるという感じじゃない事に…作りこんだなぁ、というのが第一印象。全体にアップビートな曲が並んで一気に聴かせるが、楽曲の持つ色彩はカラフルだ。これを多彩と見るか、散漫と見るかで評価は分かれるだろう。私は現時点ではとても楽しんで聴いている。

想像だけど、スラッシュ主導のラフなロックンロールというより、スコット・ウェイランド主導でシャープに磨き込んだロックンロールという感じで製作されたような気がする。まぁライヴで見れば何も変わっちゃいないんだろうけどね。

それにしてもウェイランド、カッコ良いなぁ。物凄いカリスマ性、存在感だ。3なんかカメレオンのように表情を変えて歌っている。

とんがっているようでキャッチー、モダンなサウンドを狙っているようでグルーヴはオールド・スクール、この危ういバランス感覚が何とも面白い。こんなロックンロールは他では聴けないですよ。

10はELOのカヴァー。意外な選曲だけど、違和感はなかった。

　正直なことを言えば前作の『コントラバンド』（０４年）の１作であっさり終わってしまういわば大御所のお遊びのような交配だと思っていたのだが、本作を聴けばもっと決死の覚悟だったことが理解できる。そもそもガンズ・アンド・ローゼズとストーン・テンプル・パイロッツのメンバーが２１世紀になって共にバンドを結成するなんてことに本人達でさえ「信じられない」と驚いてしまうのにも無理はなくて、そこに過去の功績が意図せずとも持ち込まれるのも当然で、下手すれば共倒れしかねないなんとも危ういこのバンドを始めることの心構えは相当なものだったはずだ。だが、彼らが『コントラバンド』で鳴らしていたものはそんな堅苦しい緊張感ではなくて、もっと単純な、もっと根本的な意味でのハード・ロックだった。昔を微笑ましく懐かしむわけでもないし、００年代に入ってから衰退の一途を辿るハード・ロック界に大先輩から活を入れてやるという意味合いでもない。ただ「ヨイショ」と腰を上げて「いっちょ俺らのハード・ロック見せてやっか」という物凄く単純で物凄く自然なハード・ロックだった。
　そんな前作がガンズとストテンの奇跡的な配合をなした感動作だとすると、「ガンズとストテンが一緒にバンドを！」という興奮を前作にきれいさっぱり置き去りにしても現在に通用するリアルなハード・ロックと、ヴェルヴェット・リヴォルヴァーというバンドの確かな存在感と頼もしさが本作である。本家バンドでのメンバーの死やドラッグ問題など相変わらずプライベートもハード・ロックな今の彼らがかき鳴らすロックには、「ハード・ロックかっこいい！」と聴き手を無条件で唸らせる精一杯のエネルギーと説得力がある。前作同様にガンズ、ストテンの熱狂的なファンも、それらをまったく知らない若い世代からも支持とリスペクトを得られるのはもはや確実である。やはり、常に勝ち続けることができなければ本当の王者ではないのだ。

元ガンズのメンバーとストーンテンプルパイロットのボーカルによるバンド。
ダフがいるとどうしてもパンクぽくなる。

スラッシュのソロのほうが、ロックぽいし、ギターソロもかっこいい。
ボーカルはまぁ、普通かな。
アクセルほど癖もないし、かといってそれほど下手でもない。
良くも悪くも普通です。
