誰よりもニューヨークを愛すデ・ニーロの魅力たっぷりの今作ですが、監督はイタリア人。キャスト陣の多くもイタリア系アメリカ人ということで、ニューヨーク出身が多いですね。その中でも、デ・ニーロのマフィア映画にこの人ありといわれているジョン・ぺシが特に良かったです。デ・ニーロと同い年で大の仲良しである2人は、10年前の1980年リリース「レイジング・ブル」で共演し、この時はデ・ニーロが初めて主演男優として初めてオスカーを受賞したんですが、助演男優賞にノミネートされたジョン・ぺシの名演技がデ・ニーロを盛り立てたことは言うまでもありません。

そして、今作ではジョン・ペシがアカデミー助演男優賞に輝き、それに対してデ・ニーロが自分のことのように喜んだのは記憶に新しい。ファンであれば、2人の共演をまた観たいですよね。

音楽もトニー・ベネット、ディーン・マーチンといったデ・ニーロお気に入りの歌がテンコ盛りです。

レイ・オッタは個性があっていい役者だと思うのですが、その後もイマイチパッとしないね。

マフィア、ニューヨーク、デ・ニーロと並んだキーワードで選ぶなら、この作品が最高でしょう。

暴力ふるいながらにやついているジョー・ぺシ　それを見ながら笑っているレイ・リオッタが
怖かった。そしてなにより、最初は結婚してレイ・リオッタの職業に抵抗的だった妻役の
ロレイン・ブラッコが映画に進むにつれて、一緒になって麻薬などの犯罪に手を染めて
いる姿もある意味怖かったです。慣れるというのは怖いと改めて感じました。

　間違いなくマーティン・スコセッシ監督作品の中でもダントツＮｏ.１、傑作中の傑作です！

デ・ニーロ、ジョー・ペシ、レイ・リオッタ、ポール・ソルヴィノ、フランク・ヴィンセントといったキャスティングも然ることながら劇中に流れる数々のベストマッチな選曲は追い打ちを掛けるようにこのタイミングしかない！といった具合に流れてくる。

さらに、一つ一つの細部にまでこだわったカットも、それだけで映画というのはものすごく細かいところにまで神経を注ぐことによって名作か否かの分かれ道になるといったお手本のような映画。
『マトリックス・シリーズ』の監督・ウォシャウスキー兄弟もこの映画に多大なる影響を受け、そしてフランク・ダラボン監督も『ショーシャンクの空に』を撮影中に何度もこの映画を観て感情を高めたそうです。

これに比べれば他のギャングやマフィアといった映画はオレには「？？？」です（笑）まだ観ていない方は是非ご覧くださいませ。
