このアルバムの選曲見て、ファンが選んだベスト版というふれこみを考えてみた。まず、まっさきに思ったのは、このアルバムの選曲をしたファンは、間違いなく、チューリップ現役時代の、アルバムをよく聞いていた人に限定される。いうならば、当時のチューリップのアルバムを聞いて、こんな名曲があるのに、世間一般の人が知らないなんて、というある種のもどかしさ、欲求不満を経験したことのある人たちの声を反映しているからだ。そして、そこにファンならではの矜持がある。「愛を抱きしめて」(財津さん自ら名曲と言っていた）、「神様に感謝をしなければ」｢愛のかたみ」「たしかな愛」「淋しくて淋しくて」「あの娘は魔法使い」といった曲がそうだ。
これに、歴史的ヒットとなったシングルヒット曲など、省けない曲を加えたものが、このアルバムといえる。そして、やっぱり、当時のファンの考えていたことって、みんな同じだったんだな、という共感を感じるには、持ってこいの一枚である。

アルバムにも入ってなくライヴだけの曲が、今回収録されたI Like Party。安部 姫野 伊藤が脱退し財津 宮城 丹野 松本の4人になった第3期チューリップのライヴでオープニングとアンコールで使われた曲です。隠れた名曲 正に財津の底力を出した曲です。是非聞いてください。

35周年で、解散で、ニューアルバムが出て、といったところで、企画物でも何でもチューリップならば、という人にはお勧めです。ファンのリクエストによるベスト盤というのがふれこみですが、少しは意味があるのかと思えます。と言うのも、今までのベスト盤には入らなかった曲が何曲か入っているからです。特に第３期チューリップの曲が第１期の曲と並んでいるなんて！
全体を通してみても、シングル曲よりもアルバム収録曲が多くて、渋い選曲という感じです。
ファンならば誰しも自分だけのベスト盤を作ったことがあるでしょうが、何となくそんな感じの１枚ですね。
同時発売されたニューアルバムより、私は買いだと思います。
