5.0 out of 5 stars 身体が揺れる〈シーツ・オブ・スイング〉の世界, 2008/1/14
　これは〈シーツ・オブ・サウンド〉ならぬ、〈シーツ・オブ・スイング〉の世界。ハードなジャズ鑑賞からちょいと寄道し、のんびり聴くのに最適の名盤だ。

　 この日もズートは絶好調。テナーを構え、ご機嫌なフレーズを次々繰り出せば、ピアノのデイブ・マッケンナは小気味よいタッチで3、40年代の香りを運んでくる。その間を豪腕ジョージ・タッカーの骨太ベースが一路まい進。ダニー・リッチモンドは小粋なドラミングで弾みをつける。のっけの｢ジャイブ・アット・ファイブ｣からずっとこんな調子で、ゆるゆる“ジャズ旧街道”をゆくカルテット……。

　 そのコンビネーションの良さは、都会を逃れた4人組が山奥の露天風呂にでもつかり、自然と交感している雰囲気だ。演奏は熱くもなく、ぬるくもない。体感温度は40数度。実にいい湯加減、音加減。そんなほのぼのムードとゆったり感覚に誘われて、つい演奏の輪に加わりたくなってしまう村の盆踊り的楽しさ、庶民的連帯感がそこにはある。

　 ……と、ここまで記したが、最初に聴いたときはこんな印象ではなかった。ジャズを聴き始めてあまりたたぬ頃である。アルバムから飛び出してきたのは、何とも垢抜けしない一本調子の音楽。まるで殺風景な田園地帯をノロノロ進むローカル列車のようで、タイトルからして、とんでもない田舎に連れて行かれそう……たちまち、アルバムは棚の隅へ“お蔵入り”となった次第。そのときの評価はいいとこ☆☆半!

　 ところが10年ほどすると、状況は一変。たまに取り出して聴くうちに、「スイングの妙」とやらがわかってきたのだ。ろくに聴かずに三行半（みくだりはん）を突きつけたのを後悔、復縁を願い出たい心境だった。

　 考えてみると、ビギナーの頃はジャズ＝ハード・バップのような図式が頭にあり、当時は黒人中心のゴリゴリのジャズばかり聴いていた。それ以外のジャズは野暮ったく、ほとんど拒否する偏狭、偏屈な聴き方だった。

　それが10年もたち、そこそこ作品を聴いてきたことにより、こうした自然な乗りでおおらかに迫る作風の妙味をあじわえるようになったというわけだ。

　ちょっぴり懐かしく、心温まるスイング感を楽しみたいとき、今もターンテーブルによく乗るのが、このアルバムである。

ZOOTのスウィンギーなリズムを堪能できる最高傑作です。どの曲も素晴らしいが、LP時代のB面4曲は、本当に素晴らしい。ZOOTのアルバムは沢山購入しましたが､やはりこの、DOWN HOMEが一番です。

ほかのアルバムにも傑作といえる曲はもちろんありますが、このアルバムは傑作の数が異常に多い。指折り数えると、オリジナルに入っていた8曲のうち、6曲は文句なく「傑作」です。どの曲が傑作かは、あなたの耳で確かめてみてください。

5.0 out of 5 stars 「緑のｼﾞｬｹに駄盤なし」　その証左の如き一枚, 2007/7/17
ﾀｲﾄなﾘｽﾞﾑｾｸｼｮﾝの好演に乗ってその持ち味を全開するｽﾞｰﾄｼﾑｽﾞの屈指の名盤のひとつ。
まあ、いろいろ名盤、銘品の数多い人なので意見は多岐に分かれるだろうが、
その出来については誰しも認めるところではないだろうか。
ﾏｯｹﾝﾅの達者な指捌きと歌うﾌﾚｰｽﾞ、ﾀｯｶｰの玄人受けするｽﾞｼｽﾞｼ響く手堅いﾍﾞｰｽﾗｲﾝ、
ﾘｯﾁﾓﾝﾄﾞの小気味の良いﾊﾞｯｷﾝｸﾞや決め打ち、そして真打登場とばかりにﾃﾅｰが詠う。
JAZZを初めて聴く向きにもきっと受けるであろう滋味に溢れた内容に溜飲が下がる思い。
ﾊﾞﾗｯﾄﾞは皆無、ﾘｽﾞﾑのあるｱｯﾌﾟﾃﾝﾎﾟな曲ばかりで飽きさせないところがまた憎い。
これは是非、押さえておいて貰いたい。特にﾀｯｶｰ好きやﾏｯｹﾝﾅﾌﾘｰｸにもお薦めである。
