トレードマークだったスピードメタルを敢えて排除した意欲的なアルバム。
元々SONATAはミドル / スローテンポの曲も魅力的なバンドだったので今作にもいつも通り高い期待を寄せていたのだが…。

オペラやプログレメタルの手法をふんだんに採り入れた方向性自体はツボだったのだが、いかんせん今回は曲が独り善がり過ぎた。
曲構成の複雑化に力を注ぎ過ぎている割に展開が物凄く単調で、曲が全く耳に馴染んでこない。
何度も頑張って聴きこんだつもりだが、結局大半の曲の輪郭を掴めないままギブアップ。

次回作でリベンジ切望。

疾走曲がないです。

でもそれは全く問題ないです。全体的にヘヴィでプログレッシブになりました。
リフが以前より目立ちますし、曲の構成がすごい複雑になっています。
ボーカルは今まで通りな感じです。キーボード、ベースの音がたくさん聴こえることや、ギターが歪みまくっていて、ソロがいい意味で荒々しくなった、といったことが変わった（成長した）ことだと思います。

今回のアルバムはトニーが雑誌のインタビューでも言っている通り、長い時間をかけてつくった甲斐があり、どの曲もソナタらしい曲に仕上がっています。
しかし、大体のイントロ部分が‘ミドルテンポで６弦主体のリフ’の曲という印象が強いので、同じような曲だと思ってしまいます。
複雑な曲構成に慣れたらすごくいいアルバムだと感じられるはずですが、この段階では星４つということで。

前作から疾走曲が減少傾向あり、本人達も疾走曲に対し否定的な発言が増えていたので今作の方向性は何となく見えていましたが…

1STアルバムを名盤と言う人からしたら、今作は完全に対極に位置すると思います。全体がミドル〜スローテンポの、プログレ的音楽性の曲が並び疾走曲と言えるのは8曲目くらい。疾走好きな人は聴いてて確実に飽きるのではないかと…。しかしソナタ的でないわけでなく、前作までのミドル、スローテンポな曲を並べました、という感じ。聴き込めば何かしら発見があるかと思います。

しかし、彼らの最大の魅力であった美旋律疾走曲が無いのは痛い!NIGHTWISHのようなゴシック好きやソナタマニアなら楽しめると思いますが、疾走曲好きには今作は薦められません。

今後の彼らの音楽性がどうなるか…ターニングポイントとなる作品でしょう。個人的にはまた疾走曲全開の彼らに戻って欲しいですが…。
