ミト(ベース)が木村カエラに楽曲を提供するなど、メンバー個々の活動も活性化しはじめたクラムボンによる、約2年ぶりのオリジナル・アルバム。曲作りを含めて約60日という短いタームで制作された本作は、ミト、伊藤大助(ドラム)、原田郁子(キーボード)のセッションが軸になっていて、これが本当に素晴らしい。楽器とプレイヤーがひとつになり、3つの音が有機的に絡み合いながら生み出される楽曲は、刺激的なインナープレイと自由なアイデアに満ちていて、聴く者の想像力をグングンと刺激する(特に「GOOD TIME MUSIC」における、スピード感に満ちたセッションは強烈!)。「あいのふかさ おもいのふかさ」というボーカルに心震える「あい の ひびき」など、ますます奥深さを増している原田郁子の歌詞も、ひどく魅力的。(森朋之)

サラウンドのような初期のころのポップさはないです。何度も何度も繰り返して聞くと本当によさがわかってきて気がつくと口ずさんでいたりします。必要最低限の音と楽器だけで本当にシンプルな演奏なのだけれど、本当にいいです。てん、」から取り組んできたことのより進歩した形なのかもしれません。

悲しい歌、というわけでもないのだけれどどこかに漂う寂しさのような雰囲気が好きです。

このアルバム、価格を下げるためにメンバーがいろいろと試みたという。
ラジオで知ったのだがやはり誠実だ。

とても表情豊かなアルバムだ。基本的には淡々とリズム良く進むのだが
緩急を付けるようにアップテンポとミドルテンポを組み合わせた前半、
そして後半、畳み掛けるようにディープな曲が続き、引き込まれる。
正にタイトルの「Musical」に恥じない傑作と云いたい。

静かに抑えるように歌うのがほとんどだが、中には「Carnival」のような
刺激的な曲もあり、「Bass,Bass,Bass」はミトがムーディに歌う異色な曲。
と面白い冒険心も健在。派手ではないかも知れないし、メディアの注目度から
すれば以前の方が上だったかもしれないがそれでもこの作品は素晴らしく、
長く長く聴けるであろうCDと思える。

ちなみに「Gould」というのはピアニストの名前だそうだ。

　前作『てん、』はまったく同じ曲群をモノラル／ステレオの2ヴァージョンでそれぞれ録音し、2枚組という形で発表したこれまでにない実験的な意欲作だった。そして、今年発表された通算7作目となる本作で、クラムボンはついに日記や手紙を書くかのようなあのささやかな生活的叙情性で歌を包み込むことをやめた。このアルバムを埋め尽くすのは、“Merry go round!”や“Carnival”といったアブストラクトかつファンタジー的なタイトルを冠した楽曲であり、「ここじゃないもっといい場所に」「ここでは誰もが鳥になる」「あの雲のむこう／そのまたむこうがわへ」といった逃避的な匂いのする言葉の数々である。サウンド面でもこれまでのダイナミズム至上主義は影を潜めていて、ともすれば閉鎖的な印象すら受けかねない。まるで夢を見ているときのような、変な閉塞感と安心感みたいなものが全体に漂っている。そんな感覚だ。13分にも及ぶ文字通りの“Long Song”は本作の空気を象徴する圧巻中の圧巻。長ったらしいと思われるかもしれないが、絶対に聴く価値がある。
　どうやらクラムボンは自身の音楽的触れ幅を広げようとしているようだ。前作と本作の2作品で自由度を引き上げた音楽性がこの先どういったところに収まるのか、いったいどこに行き着こうとしているのか、それを想像するだけで次作への期待が高揚するのは止められない。そして、そこには不思議なくらい不安感や懐疑的な気持ちがまるでないのだ。それがどれだけすごいことか、お解りだろうか。このバンドとファンを繋いでいるものが他でもない「信頼」であること。クラムボンがクラムボンであり続けること。作品にクラムボンとしての血を通わせること。そのずっとずっと根源的な部分に触れることのできる良い作品だと思う。僕は、クラムボンを信頼しています。
