<フュージョン>
1960年代の後半より、電気楽器やロック風な奏法を取り入れた、新しい演奏スタイル。ジャズ・ロック、クラシックや現代音楽の要素を取り入れたクロスオーバーを経て、アメリカなどでは1970年代終盤、日本でも同時期から1980年代に入ると、よりソフィスティケイトされたポピュラーな曲想や演奏となった。これを、他のジャンルと融合した音楽としてフュージョンという新たなジャンルで呼ばれた。

同僚(?)のE.ゲイルが(ソロアルバムでは)R&Bフィーリングを感じさせつつも、そこに収まらない形で自らの音楽性を発揮している感が強いのに対して、この人は本当に実直というか、浮気をしないというか...(^^;
R&B、Soul、Bluesといったある種、我々が本当には感じ切れないフィーリングを、"ギターに託している"感じさえしてきます。お見事です。
カテゴリーこそ"フュージョン"になっていますが、間違いなく、R&BやSOULといった棚に堂々と並べられるべき作品だと思います。

このおじさんの渋さ、愛嬌のあるR&Bﾃｲｽﾄ、人間味の滲んだﾌﾟﾚｲと
曲間の立ち居振る舞い････。どれをとっても一時代の生き証人だなあと
感じ入ってしまう。大阪のBLUE　NOTEでｱﾝｺｰﾙにも応えた後で、
腕時計を眺めてから「もう時間も遅いし明日が早いから終わりだよ。」
と言って自ら愛用のｷﾞﾀｰや機材を片付けだし、
やんやの拍手の中楽屋に戻っていった姿が今でも印象に残っている。
このおじさんと言えばまず本作品の名前が挙がる名盤だが、
何気ないようで実は細かいところまでいろいろ隠し味が施されて
いて、永く聴いても聴き飽きしないところが凄い。

　ラストのブルース！聴いてみ！参考にならないという奴、あなたは未熟だ。エモーショナルという言葉はこういうことを言います。ジャケットはGibsonES-335みたいだけど、この音はTelecasterだよねぇ？他の曲も素晴らしいですよ。２５００を越えるセッションに参加した達人が「坊や達、聴きな。これがR&Bギターだぜ。」とニヤリとして出した初ソロ。言われ尽くされていますが超名盤。ギタリスト必須。
