当時はカトキ氏によって新規デザインされたガンダムの設定に少々混乱した覚えがある。（後にアーリータイプをデザインしてＴＶ版との矛盾点を解消した）
確かに周りの女子ガンダムファンはキャラクターに熱中していたし大人達はキャラ人気に頼った女子オタク向けのガンダムと卑下していた。
何故キャラクターに人気が付くのはいけないのか？ガンダムに女性ファンが付くのを嫌がるのか、勝手に硬派なイメージを作って逆にガンダムという作品への敷居を高くして足を引っ張っていると気付かないのでしょうか？このエンドレスワルツに流れている血も富野ガンダムとなんら変わらない戦争の無意味さを語っているというのに・・・。
この作品を卑下する人達は先入観によって物語の本懐を理解せずうわべだけしか観ていない。今見ても色あせないこの作品を観ないのは非常に勿体無い、食わず嫌いしている人もＴＶ版を途中で観るのを止めてしまった人もこの機会に是非観て欲しい。
パロディばっかリやっているＳＥＥＤと同じカテゴリーに納めてしまうのはあまりにも勿体無い作品なのだから。
別にＳＥＥＤファンを否定する訳ではありません、あれも途中まで好きでした。

ガンダムシリーズの中でも、このOVA版（劇場版）ほど、「ガンダムは戦闘力として非常に優れているけれど、それだけで時代は変えられない」というテーマ、言い換えればガンダムの無力さ、普通の人たちの力をこれほど真正面から描いた作品は少ないのでは無いでしょうか。
このOVAを見てから、もう一度本編を見ると、ファーストシリーズが「英雄になってしまった者達」の悲哀や矛盾を描いているのに対して、ウイングが「英雄になることを拒否した者」の悲哀や無力さを描いている事が良く解ります。
ガンダムのデザインや戦闘シーンが格好良いというのもありますが、ＯＶＡ版の魅力はやはりストーリーに有ると思います。
２人のガンダムパイロットの戦闘時の会話は、とても深い内容です。
毛嫌いせずに、一度は見て欲しい作品だと思います。
ＯＤＤ＆ＥＶＥＮの方は、ちょっと新作映像もありますが総集編といった位置付けなので、新作と考えている方はご注意を。
