TVシリーズでは説明不足だったオペレーションメテオの続編補足作品です。
各ガンダムパイロットの過去などの掘り下げ、オペレーションメテオの真の姿、苦悩するガンダムパイロット達の闘いがメインに描かれてます。
少々混乱するのはガンダムのデザイン。
カトキハジメ氏が「ガンダムのデザイン変えちゃっていいですか?」で変更となったガンダム達。名前、一部シルエットを残してゴッソリ変わってしまい後にパンフレット、模型誌等でアーリータイプとしてTVシリーズで活躍したであろう姿を補足してありますが今となってはこのガンダムデザインで無くてはこの作品は成り立たないなぁと思い始めています(羽ばたく演出のせいですね)。
不満があるとすればウイングゼロの活躍が少ない事、ガンダムシリーズのご多分に洩れず主人公機は大破しますが戦闘で傷ついて欲しかった(別作品のデステニィーでは最強を印象付ける為フリーダムは全く傷つきませんでしたが。)
最終的には武器を捨て平和へ歩み出すという終わり方でガンダムパイロット達の闘いが無意味では無かったという終わり方になっており完結しています。
賛否両論ありますが私はこれで良かったと思います。

この作品を好きになれるかは、非現実的な面を受け入れられるかです。
私にはそんなことが気にならないくらいおもしろく感じられました。
特にボロボロになり、追い詰められながらも不殺を貫いたデュオたち、そしてバスターライフルを連射しつづけたウイングの姿が印象的です

このアニメだけで戦争や平和について、全てを学べる訳ではないけども考えるきっかけとしては十分。そもそも映画やドラマなどのエンターテインメントで世界情勢の本質を描ききろうというのが無理なのだから。出来ればＯＶＡ版よりも劇場公開された特別編をオススメします。あちらは新作カットも入っているので。

ちなみにガンダムの腐女子、腐男子は初代の頃からいましたけど何か？
