   オリジナルビデオ作品として始まったシリーズから続く1989年公開の劇場版。近未来、汎用人型機械・レイバーが一般に使用されるようになったが、レイバーを利用した犯罪も相次ぎ、これを防ぐため警察もレイバーを導入。このパトレイバー小隊の活躍を描くのが本シリーズの基本設定。
   本作はコンピュータウイルスによるレイバーの暴走から事件は始まるものの、やがては「東京」という都市そのものに言及していくことになり、単なるロボットものの範囲を大きく逸脱。シリーズものではあるものの、その一編というよりまさしく押井守監督の作品といった方がふさわしく、その独自の演出が存分に堪能できる。（田中 元）

オネアミスの翼でも同様にDVDとHDDVDを抱き合わせていますが、
まさにコレクターのみをピンポイントで狙った組み合わせですね。

普通に興味のある一般ユーザー(HD-DVDプレイヤーを持っている時点で一般ではないかもしれませんが・・・）は無視されています。

まあ、企業としては既に伸びしろのない作品かもしれませんが、今後も同様の商法が起こりうる可能性を考えると非常に残念です。

HD-DVD版とDVD版を同梱してこの価格で販売する意図が理解できません。
別々にリリースして価格を下げた方が余程売れると思うのですが。
とにかくユーザーを軽視した商売のやり方が不愉快です。
ま、この会社は今に始まったことではありませんけど。
ユーザーの皆さん、買う時はよく考えて購入しましょう。

バンビジ、メモリーテック、MSが協力して、
本気でVC-1でエンコードした初のアニメ作品だが、
ものすごく丁寧に作られている。

ソースが古いので、作画はブレてるし、フォーカスが
甘いところもあるし、フィルムの粒子感は出てるし、
フィルムの傷はゴミもよく見えるので、一見画質が
悪いと思うかもしれない。が、しかし、それらが
見えるほど丁寧にエンコードされている証拠なのだ。

背景担当の人の想像力が伝わってきそうな、
夕陽に映える雲の筆のタッチがよく見えたり、
やたらめったら細かい箱舟の細部描写や、
1つ1つのオブジェクトの質感のこだわりなど、
1シーン1シーンで、新な発見と感動を与えてくれる。

この映画が公開されて18年たち、今までにSD画質で
何十回と見てきた。絵に関しては、この18年、
奥に秘めたる素質の90%は知らなかった気がした。

さて、問題は1万円を越える価格であるが、
HD DVD単体で1万円でも、十分出す価値を感じた。
むしろ、DVDがついてることが、1万円の価値を
感じさせない要因(抱き合わせ)となっているだろう。

DVDの価値はゼロである。比較のために添付されている。
同じソースとは思えないほど、DVDで見ると
「TVで見るアニメ映画」に成り下がってしまう。
HD DVDで見ると、「家庭で見る劇場映画」になる。

あと、ケースが、DVDのトールケースサイズなのも
あとあと整理が面倒くさくなるだろう。
HD DVD標準のケースサイズに合わせてほしい。

2点ほど悪い点を挙げたが、
減点する必要を感じないほど、HD DVD本編の
破壊力は高い。
HD DVD派で、パトレイバーファンの人は
マストアイテムだろう。
