　小品ながら　ヒッチコックのコメディーとしては最高傑作。

　サスペンス映画の巨匠だけに　主人公のハリーは冒頭からきちんと（？）死体で登場する。

　誰がハリーを殺したのか　という筋立てだ。これは　きちんとした犯罪映画と思いきや　これが爆笑コメディーであるから　本当にヒッチコックは油断がならない。しかもユーモアの資質としては　とことんブラックであり　ヒッチコックの　有る意味で底意地の悪さも感じられる。
　

　登場人物たちは死体の周りで右往左往し　死体の傍で恋におちる不逞の輩も出てくる。舞台も紅葉が実に綺麗な　郊外だ。実際　紅葉の美しさという点でも本作は有名だ。伊丹十三が「お葬式」を撮った際に道の落ち葉の演出に　本作を挙げたと「お葬式日記」に記されてあったことも思い出した。
　
　見ていない人の為にも　これ以上筋は記さないが　それにしてもこれを書いていて　まだ笑いがこぼれてしまう。
　見終れば　題名である「ハリーの災難」という意味が実によくわかり　もう一回笑えてしまうのだ。


　本当にハリーは災難だったと思う。

ずいぶん変わった作品でなんともいえない違和感があります。森の中に死体が転がってる。それを何人もの人間が目する。誰も驚かない。変わっていて不思議な映画。舞台となっている田舎町の景色が非常に美しく、登場人物もほのぼのとしたテンポなので余計違和感が際立ちます。ヒッチコックがとりわけお気に入りの作品とのこと。”型にはまった映画の通念を打ち破って、すべてコントラストを強調しながら描いてみた”と語っています。何につけ物事がそれにふさわしいのとは逆のシチュエーションの中で起きるということらしい。イギリス的ブラックユーモアに満ち溢れ、好きな人にはたまらない魅力がある作品。
