誰にも知られたくないことを隠し通す演技力、それに対して普段と様子が違うことによる怪しい雰囲気、それらがとても限られた空間の中で互いに絡み合って展開していくドラマが、観ている我々に独特の緊張感を作り出させている。

最初から誰が殺人犯なのかはわかっているので犯人探しではないが、逆に殺人犯の心理的な行動が醸し出すミステリアスな言葉とリアクションがとてもリアルで釘付けになってしまった。

オスカー俳優のスチュアートの懐疑的なものの見方が徐々に高まってくるところなどは、この作品のクライマックスで、それが見事に当たってしまった驚きと絶望感が、特に印象に残った。

とてもスケールの小さな作品ですが、観終わってから受ける満足感は大きいものになることでしょう。

ヒッチコック監督によるはじめから終わりまでの１ショット撮影が話題になった作品です。二人の学生仲間が共謀して殺した友人の死体を目の前において、その部屋で知り合いを呼んでパーティをやろうという趣向。誰にも気づかれないことを面白がるという悪趣味な学生仲間二人組みの主演。リーダー役の青年が顔も怖いが偏執性。教師役のジェームススチュワートにお前は殺人マニアだなどと怒られる。地味で音入れもほとんどない記憶がありますが話運びの緻密さでつい入り込んでしまいます。
