アーティストについて

このアルバムは今までのとは雰囲気が大分違う


アルバム発売時あたりの新聞の夕刊にさわおがでてたが、「初心者でも聞けるようにオルタナの攻撃性は控えてある」みたいなことを言ってた

確かに億劫になるようなネガティブさ(いい意味で)や少し官能的な詩や(もともと少ないが)、そうした要素は極めて薄い。

しかし…そこにあるのは、極上のポップソング。しかもオルタナらしさが随所にちりばめられている…

このアルバムからピロウズを知った人は多いだろう(売上的に)。そして、彼らは過去のピロウズを聞かなければ気が済まなくなる

そしてその連鎖は止まらなくなる。

エイベックス移籍でメジャーデビューという筋書きは、それまでの彼らを愛しているファンにとっては「彼らは僕らとは違う船に乗ってしまったのではないか」という暗い疑いの目を向けてしまうのも無理はないものである。

しかしながらよく聞いてみると、やはり彼らはピロウズであるとわかる。

例えば「プレジャーソング」は今回のアルバムでは「YOUNGSTAR」に続く明るさ、ポップさ、を発揮している曲である。
聞いていてなぜか心地よいのは彼らの表現するものが「暗闇に怯えながらも、心の中で大事に育ててきた一筋の喜び」であり流行曲のようなキャッチーな物では決してないからであろう。
「sweet baggy days」を聞いてみればどうしようもない孤独を求める瞬間もあることがわかる。

今までpillowsを好きであった人はそれまでと同じ視点でよく聞いてみて欲しい。
きっと共感できる。

彼らは変わってない。まわりが変わった。その事に対する彼らの素直な気持ちが伝わってくる。プロボーズとスケアクロウでこれまでの苦闘をともに戦ってきたバンドメンバーに感謝と、これからも変わらずよろしく!と伝え、プレジャーソングで今の状況に対する素直な喜びを表し、プライベートキングダムやスウィートバギーデイズでそれでも心にはびこるどうしようもない孤独を歌い、
そしてBOAT HOUSEでこれまでついて来てくれたリスナーに感謝の気持ちをのべている。「こんな馬鹿馬鹿しい歌を信じてくれるのは、きみだけさ。変わり物のきみだけ。どうして僕の事嫌いにならないのか、ずっと不思議だよ。変わり者の理解者。ありがとう君がスキだよ。」ファンなら解るであろう最後のフレーズ。サンキューベリーマッチ、アイライクユーバスターズ。そう、彼らは何も変わってやしない。
