ずいぶん昔２枚組みのレコードを持っていたが、度重なる引越しでいつの間にかなくなっていた。年をとるうち何時か音楽と無縁の生活を送るようになったが、50才を過ぎて少しずつ昔を振り返るようになった。そんな時これらの歌を聴くと、遠い青春を懐かしさと少しの後悔とともに思い出す。私だけの星５つです。

彼らが若いときの,ヒット曲がみんな入っていて誰でもスーっと入っていけると思います。私はSING OF OUR TIMESとHONEY WIND BLOWSを買いたくて来たのですが.まだ出ていない。キングストン,トリオのTRIBUTEというDVDも欲しい。I LOVE BASEBALLというCDももうすぐ出ます。早く乗せてください。

日本の60年代のフォーク・ブームは外国の曲のコピーから始まりました。当時、我が国でもピーター・ポールアンドマリーと同様の人気があったのが、ブラザース・フォーでした。
ギター伴奏にのせての男声4人によるコーラスは、グループを作りやすいせいか、当時フォークグループの雛型のようになったのも理解できます。

彼らのヒット曲は沢山ありますが、列挙しますと、「グリーン・フィールズ」「遥かなるアラモ」「500マイル」「七つの水仙」「花はどこへ行った」「さらばジャマイカ」などが上げられます。どれも日本のフォークグループにカバーされた曲ばかりですので、当時のフォークシーンを辿る上ではずせない曲だと思います。

「トライ・トゥ・リメンバー」を聴いていますと、彼らのハーモニーの美しさは、今でも十分鑑賞に値する歌唱です。シンプルなコード進行を伴ったハーモニーの中に、温かさや懐かしさが全て込められています。

「グリーンスリーヴズ」のように、昔から歌われてきた曲も、彼らのハーモニーのお蔭でその良さが再認識されたのだと思っています。
ジュディ・コリンズやジョニ・ミッチエルの名唱が思い出される「青春の光と影」も男声4人のハーモニーで聴くとまた違った趣が感じられ、とても良かったです。

温故知新といいますか、確かにその演奏スタイルは古くなりましたが、味わいは今でも十分感じ取ることができます。
昔懐かしい曲を久しぶりに聴くとまた違った魅力を発見できます。
