前作「12メモリーズ」は個人的に重々しくて、聞いててシンドクなりましたが、
本作はとても気持ち良く聞けます。
どの曲もメロディがハンパじゃなく良いです。
メロディにグイグイと引き込まれ、さらりと一通り聞かせられるほどに。

アップテンポなのは(2)ぐらいで、先行シングルの(3)のようなスロー〜ミドルテンポの曲が大半を占めてます。

それでも曲調やアレンジは起伏があって、単調な印象はありません。
たとえば既述の(2)は、豪快なドラミングとキラキラとしたE.Guitarの絡みが新鮮。
しかも、フックが効いててキャッチー。
(5)ではStringsと女性のbacking vocalsがなんとも流麗。
一転して(6)ではE.Guitarが重厚に鳴り、(7)では、これまた、キラキラとしたE.Guitarのアルペジオが軽やかな印象を与える。
(11)ではかっこいいHarp（ハーモニカ）が。
UK盤では隠れトラックとなるらしい(13)では、フランのシャウトが聞けます。

なお、前情報では、KTタンストールとのデュエットと伝えられていた(9)は、
デュエットというほどKTのvocalは目立っていないのがちょっと残念。
クレジットにもbacking vocalsとして表記されています。
ちなみにこの曲は、どういう経緯か分かりませんが、Susie Hugという女性の作曲で、
TRAVISのメンバーは作曲に関わってません。

本作には、CD帯のコピーにあるような「傑作」とか、「TRAVIS新章の幕開け」いう大げさな形容はどうも似つかわしくない。
そんな革新性はなくとも、日常に確かな彩りを与えてくれる。
繰り返し聴きたくなるのはこんな作品だ。

自分はＴＨＥ ＭＡＮ ＷＨＯとベストアルバムしか聴いていないのですが、このアルバムはその二枚と比べても、それ以上か遜色ない楽曲揃いではないでしょうか。美メロというトラヴィスの命を存分に発揮されていて、そこを軸によくまとまっていますね。今までに全く魅力を感じない人まで惹き付けられるとは思わないですし、そういうタイプの作品になっているわけではないのですが、ファンの人にはまさに最高に満足な一枚だろうという気がします。作品によっては…という方、これからトラヴィスを聴いてみようという方、俗に言われるＵＫミュージックを好む方にもオススメです。

トラヴィスは良くも悪くも普通的というのがあり、個人の嗜好からどうしてもそれ程には好きになれないのですが、予想よりいい歌揃いで気に入りました。こうやって長く続けて、また改めて自分達の魅力を損なわずに作品に出来る事は素晴らしいですね。「トラヴィス」を期待している人は買って後悔しないと思います！

TRAVIS　5thアルバム。オリジナルアルバムですと４年も待たされることになりました、がバンドにとっていい充填期間となったようで、すごくいいです。バンドよりもいい曲を書くことに専念したことでさらにメロディーに磨きがかかったようです。今作は２作目、３作目の作りで、伝統的な英国の懐の深い、繊細だが芯のしっかりした国風や風景、石造建築物の色合いがよく伝わる音で、まったく静かな部屋で聴くことをお薦めします。CD帯には、"ROCK"でも"POP"でもなく、"英国音楽"とジャンル分けされているところがにくい。
