BMXのこの2007年作は、前作から一年ぶりと彼らとしては異例のハイペースで発表されたわけだが、これはバンドが、女性ボーカルのレイチェルとパール･フィッシャーズのデヴィッドを得て、第二期黄金期に突入しているという証拠だろう。それまでのジャングリーな音に、より洗練された音像がプラスされた様子、どことなく、カトリーナが加入してきたときのパステルズと同じ感じを感じる。デヴィッド参加の効果としてのパール･フィッシャーズ色すなわち完成度の高い洗練されたポップス度は、実際かなり上昇している。いわゆるヘタウマだったダグラスのボーカルも、ここ最近の作品では、随分とまろやかになったなあと感じる。まるでソフトロックのボーカルのようだ。

そして後は、パステルズが傑作「イルミネーション」に辿り着いたように、BMXが今後、聴く物をアッと驚かせるような化学変化を見せ、良作以上の大傑作をモノに出来るかどうかだが、これを聴く限り、かなり期待できるような気がする。ここには、まだもう一歩、踏み込んできそうな余裕を感じるからだ。まだまだそういったことを期待させてくれることが、とてもうれしい。

間違いなく傑作だ。と思う。前作「my chain」は、ダグラスの個性を全面的に押し出した、穏やかでかつずぶずぶにセンチメンタルなもの（なんたって全曲が一人の女性に本気でささげられている！）で、それはそれで僕は好きだったが、フランシス・マクドナルドの離脱以降、BMX banditsが「バンドとして」どうなるのか、ということが心配にならないでもなかった。ダグラスのソロ・アルバムみたいだったから。そして前作から一年余りで、今作である。ものすごい短いスパン。逆に心配。ジャケが・・とか色々考えていたが、もう一曲目「take me to heaven 」から、「ああ、いいなあ、いいなあ」と一人でにやにやしてしまった。楽曲の良さや、勢いというのもあるが、前作ではあまり目立たなかった女性ボーカルのレイチェルの声の素晴らしさ、そして「elegant lines」等でのダグラスとレイチェルの掛け合いは、どことなくモータウン・ポップのデュエット曲ぽくて、それも好きだ。
